Somebody give us a drink....this guy was supposed the future Reds 2B or maybe 3B.
Re: Wednesday 05/19/10 Minor League Updates
Chapman is hitting .429 after going 0 for 3 last night?
Why aren't we talking about him for our LF replacement??? :D
Re: Wednesday 05/19/10 Minor League Updates
Can someone please tell me why the Reds are keeping Daryl Harang and his 12.15 era around? He gets dropped from AA to high A ball and is still getting lit up. Just don't see keeping a 27 year old in high A ball. At that age if he can't make at least AA then its time to cut ties with the guy. Or maybe its because he's just having some bad luck like his older brother! RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm sure he will rebound to some degree, but this is yet further proof why prospects are prospects, and should be considered very tradeable for the right proven major league talent.
Re: Wednesday 05/19/10 Minor League Updates
Remind yourself that both Dorn and Valaika started their first seasons at AAA in a similar, seemingly over-matched funk. They got over it and look very good now.
Re: Wednesday 05/19/10 Minor League Updates
Hate to rain on what little parade the Bats offense has had, but Valaika's numbers are looking more and more everyday like those of a AAAA ballplayer. .755 OPS, with a .359 OBP that includes very few walks (just as in past, for him). 11 W in 144 AB. No power: 0 HRs in 144 AB, only 10 extra base hits out of his 45 hits.

He'll come through.
He only has to have enough Offense to play 2nd Base in the Majors. That doesn't ask for a lot. He never has to have an OPS of .800 or anything at the Major League level for him to be successful for the REDS. He can take Brandon's place in 2011 at 2nd Base and a .750 OPS from 2011 through 2015 will be good enough. His defense should be fine for 2nd. You need guys like him that don't cost a lot, but just do their job and are consistent. That will be Valaika.

Average to below OPS with ho-hum to shaky defense are just the kinds of regluar players that turn teams into the Pirates. Good teams have guys like that on the bench.

Agreed. Rosales was/is better, and I move, if I'm Walt, to restructure Brandon's contract.

Where do you get "ho-hum to shaky defense"?
I don't see that in him as a 2nd Baseman. Maybe I'm missing something, but I think he's average at the minimum defensively.
Anyone else want to chime in here?
Seriously, mth123, do you really think he's that bad? I believe you've seen him more than I have, especially lately, so I'll defer to you on this if you really think he's that bad. From what I had seen of him, I just never saw that.
