Sorry I would post the tweet but I'm on my phone and I can't do that from my phone.
Wow. That was fast.

Playoff push. More are coming....
Depending on how well he finishes the year there, I could see him going into 2014 as a top 10 prospect.
His last start he was outstanding, fastball had zip like Cingrani's, his slider was low away and on the corner, threw one changeup on 3-2 pitch that made the hitter look goofy. One inning he threw about a half dozen changeups in a row and then threw a 97 mph fastball that just wasnt legal IMO. He's nasty.
The heir to Homer Bailey
Any idea what the corresponding move was?
Wow, this caught me off guard.
I'm of the mindset that once you get to AA, things can really move quickly based on what happens up at the big league level.
My quick reaction on this one is I think the odds favor him making a cameo in Cincinnati next season. Assuming his stuff sticks at the next 2 levels like I think it will.
The Reds could trade Bailey this winter. 2015 may seem to make more sense and coincides with Stephenson's arrival better but it would have to be a deadline trade and might not bring as much as a trade this winter would, more time = more value. Whichever - Stephenson is being pushed but at least it is a level at a time and allowing him to succeed if briefly, before bumping him up. I like it - let him rise until he is challenged.
Homer could fetch a few top level prospects, which is exactly what Cinci needs.
Awesome news. I think he'll handle AA just fine. At this pace, we could see him in Cincinnati sometime late next season. Cueto/Latos/Cingrani/Stephenson/Leake/Bailey (if they can re-sign him) has the makings of a dominant pitching staff for years to come.
Hopefully he can help push them into the playoffs.
I hadn't checked his numbers in a while -- kid seems like he might be the genuine article.
I've always been a Bailey fan and hate the idea of trading him, but if he brings back two or more top prospects and one is an mlb ready ss, then I say unloading him this offseason is a no-brainer.
The Rays got Will Myers for Shields. I would love something like that.
I have zero desire to go into next year with Cozart and Frazier as one side of the infield. Only way I see that changes is by trading one of Cueto, Bailey or Chapman. Latos is virtually untouchable.
If one of those guys could net you Profar or someone similar at 3rd or SS I do it. Preferably Bailey.
Shields had 2 years left and Bailey has just one. Plus Shields has had a better career. We'll see how the year finishes up and how eager teams are for pitching in this already suppressed hitting environment. It might be easier than you expect to piece together a rotation whereas finding legit offense on the trade market could be steeply priced.
Homer will not fetch what Shields did, but I think he can bring back a decent return.
I am thinking along the lines of Homer for Wil Middlebrooks and another B prospect from The Sox.
Breaking News - The Reds will not trade Aroldis Chapman this offseason.
From what I read, Stephenson is a better prospect than Homer was. Fastball is just as good and he has secondary stuff to go with it. I think he will end up spending less time at AAA.
Regarding Homer, the Reds have multiple routes they could go. First, I think they try to sign him. I suspect that #years will be the difficult negotiating point. If that fails, they could trade him. The risk there is that it reduces the margin of safety for starting pitching. I think they only do that if the return is extremely high. They could trade him at the deadline if he is having a good year and the Reds are not. Lastly, if all else fails to net a good return, they could make him a qualifying offer and take the draft pick. The advantage of this last course is that it gives the Reds the best chance to win in 2014, it gives Stephenson sufficient time to develop at AAA, and it gives the Reds one more chance to sign Homer in what one hopes is the euphoria of a successful season.
Bailey is gone. He doesn't want to be here and the Reds do not have the money to make him change his mind. Might as well shake him off while we can get something in return.
I'm in the sign him or take the draft pick camp. We've spent all this time developing the guy, and now is the time to finally reap the rewards! If his shoulder is fixed for good, pay the man. But if finances limit us going forward, I'm totally okay with Homer playing for a contract next year and leading us to our second world series in two years with a sweet draft pick coming back afterwards.
Back to the original topic, all i can say is wow! It's been a long time since the Reds fast-tracked a guy like this. Homer being the only guy in memory and look how that turned out! Hopefully he can avoid the few mediocre, injury plagued seasons and gets to elite status immediately, but either way, this is awesome. The reds have been churning out solid homegrown pitchers like clockwork, where was this the past decade?
For the trade Bailey in the offseason crowd, what is your plan for the rotation next year?
Cingrani takes one spot and Rogers, Reynolds, maybe Corcino and possibly a prospect acquired in the trade, or a veteran free agent on a short deal. Given Cueto's health it would be a really risky move to move Bailey but if the return was high enough....BUT...I'd only do a deal if the return was really high AND if they already had another arm to compete for that spot. Otherwise I'd hang on for the draft pick or if the team falters before the deadline, a deal then.
Cueto
Latos
Cingrani
Leake
Chapman
I'd bet against Chapman to the rotation. Just ain't gonna happen.
That's 2/5ths of a rotation with a question mark. Then there isn't much in AAA to reinforce, either. The Villareals and Reynolds haven't really panned out, although they didn't have much chance either. I think Bailey will almost definitely be needed and worth more than many offers could supply, especially since he'll likely bring a 2015 comp pick as well.
Also, it's hard to see where losing Choo, Arroyo and Bailey in one off season would be easy to overcome.
Stephenson will be up here next season. Easy money.
Agree with this.
There are only two infield prospects I'd trade Bailey for: Jurickson Profar or Xander Bogaerts
I might consider guys like Miguel Sano, Carlos Correa, Javier Baez and Francisco Lindor for value, but they don't really help us win anything next year, and therefore don't make much sense.
If the Reds can't get someone they can plug into the left side of the infield (cheaply) for the next five years, they should hang onto Bailey and take the picks.
I'd also definitely make qualifying offers to both Choo and Arroyo, without any real attempt to sign either longterm. If they take it, great, and if they don't, you have two extra draft picks.
If Arroyo takes his, you definitely trade Bailey, both for financial and positional reasons. If he doesn't, you still gauge what it would take to re-sign Bailey and Leake, independently. If Bailey is willing to do <20% more than Leake, sign Bailey and trade Leake. If he isn't, trade Bailey, and sign Leake for an extra 2-3 years.
Extend Latos no matter what. We need him + Cingrani + Stephenson and one of Cueto/Leake/Bailey to be our rotation foundation for the next 5 years.
For those seeking AAA depth/#6 starter for next year, you have Corcino and Sharky.
