MLB reveals 2009 schedule; Reds to host Mets on Opening Day
Opening Day will be on Monday, April 6th. Why wait that long, what's wrong with March 30th? The Reds will open with the Mets for three games and then the Pirates come to town over the weekend. As for Interleague play: the Reds will play their usual six games against the Indians, they will also travel to Kansas City to play the Royals, they will host the White Sox for three, and they travel to Toronto for the second straight season. That's the head scratcher for me. Why send them to Toronto again?

Going to Toronto is odd.
It looks like the interleague rotation is the AL Central. Why not the Tigers or Twins?
Must be some kind of scheduling anomaly.

That's what I was thinking. They just played the Mets on Opening Day 2005 when Dunn hit two homeruns and Joe Randa hit a walk off homer. I was hoping for someone like the Nationals or Pirates. :D
Volquez vs Santana should be a nice matchup.
Re: MLB reveals 2009 schedule; Reds to host Mets on Opening Day
Harang may be the opening day starter....even if Volquez SHOULD be....you know, out of respect. Much like Griffey batting 3rd.
If Volquez's spring is similar to this past spring/season, he earns the #1 slot in my book, whether he gets it or not.

Indeed, but we have no Joe Randa to save us this time :D
Re: MLB reveals 2009 schedule; Reds to host Mets on Opening Day
BTW Opening Day is exactly 200 days from today. That's way too far off. It seems like the baseball offseason is sooooo long whereas the NBA offseason feels like it's three days.

Opening day is on my birthday. It's going to be a great day.

Volquez may deserve to be the Opening Day starter but should he actually start the game? It seems that the Curse of the Reds Opening Day Starter may have finally caught up to Aaron.
Now if we could only extend Dusty's contract.

Well...that's one way of looking at it :D
Let the #5 starter start it.

Game 7 of the 2009 World Series could be on November 5th. Wow!
Also the Reds have never came to Baltimore since inter league play started. You would think a trip up here would have come before another one to Toronto.

Yep. Baltimore is the only city the Reds have yet to travel to since Interleague play started in 1997.
