Wainwright pulled from start, Shelby Miller will start now
Helps us out from the standpoint if Washington loses, as St Louis doesn't have anything to play for now

Dag, I was hoping the Dodgers could pull it out. Oh well, let the chips fall....

Nats play an afternoon game so we'll know if the game is important by tonight.

Yep. Although even if the Nats win, you almost have to start all the regulars (except maybe Rolen) trying to get the offense on track heading into SF.

I would --- but I'm not in charge.

If the Nats win I would just sit everyone or play the starters just part time.

Agree. If the Nats win, it means nothing and we play on Saturday. I'll take the rest and not risking injuries. Our offense isn't going to be any better or worse by playing 1 more game.

John Kruk said on ESPN radio this morning that the smart thing to do is play your regulars, let them get a couple of at bats, and then sit them. He said that for a regular ball player, 3 days off is an enternity.

I say play the regulars 5-6 innings. In about the 6th, sub in the non-starters of the following
Heisey
Paul
Cairo
Valdez
Frazier/Rolen
Basically, the guys you're taking on the roster who didn't start.

So whats the situation? If the Nats win we get the 2 seed and automatically get SF? Isnt that what we want?

I'd rather get the 1 seed, really.
-Play against a WC team that has burned a pitcher/bullpen the night before.
-NLCS would be a home series should we make it that far.

I was thinking the same thing, which scares me. If you play Wednesday and garner the #1 seed, you are off until Sunday. Seems to me like that is sufficient rest.

Yeah, I agree with Kruk. Strike a balance beween rested and sharp.
And it's pretty much what we did with Arroyo and Latos (and most certainly with Homer too). Keep them on the regular schedule yet give them a less taxing pitch count to work with.
I definitely don't want a situation like the Yankees, where you're playing an 11 inning game in the drizzle and having your closer throw more than 40 pitchers.

Re: Wainwright pulled from start, Shelby Miller will start now
i'm really torn if i want the #1 or 2 seed. Playing Atlanta would be the ideal matchup but also could have to face the Cards which would be bad. San Fran hasn't played all that good lately

I want the #1 seed. People are overly paranoid with the cardinals and I dont know why. They are the weakest link of the playoffs.

You would have to define "lately". From the morning of August 11th on they have the best record in the NL. They are tied for the best record in baseball since then. They have played at a .681 clip since that date at 32-15. They went 18-11 in the month of August and 19-8 in the month of September. To me, anyway, that qualifies as a team being en fuego.

They've been playing the Astros and Cubs a lot during that stretch though, haven't they?
