Re: Felix Baumgartner is the Freaking Man
There was a Russian skydiver who jumped from above the point I spoke of where the boilijg point is only 98 degrees or so. As he exited his capsule he hit his head and put a hairline crack in his visor.
He was DOA.
Not sure what would scare me worse- the ebullism (gas bubbles form beneath the skin and you swell up like a bodybuilder) or the fact that if he jumps a little too right or left footed he'll start to spin and most likely his brain will detach from his spinal column.
There is a chance he doesn't make it today- they aren't even sure the suit can withstand a sonic boom.
690 MPH straight down for a little while.

You can watch it live. How much of it I have no idea.

Re: Felix Baumgartner is the Freaking Man
It's also on cable...Velocity channel I think? Balloon is being inflated, he's getting in the suit.
Less than an hour until launch.
Re: Felix Baumgartner is the Freaking Man
The only person Baumgartner will be in communication with will be Kittinger, who holds the current free fall record. He's 84 now.
Felix suffered from claustrophobia from the suit to the point he needed therapy. He almost scrapped the mission because of it. All you can hear is your own breathing, your vision is limited. For hours.
Getting closer to launch...he'll jump a few hours after that.

Had no idea it would take that long. They just said 2 hours to altitude. I assume he doesn't linger at altitude, he'll just go?

My understanding is it is close to 2 hours up and then he goes....he's at over 20,000 feet now, I think? 5 meters a second....
Re: Felix Baumgartner is the Freaking Man
I assume 99% of the conversations now are just for show/keep him occupied. You can get this data automatically.
