Corie Blount Returns as Assistant Coach
Former NBA Performer To Start Immediately
Dec. 6, 2005
CINCINNATI, Ohio --Corie Blount, the starting center on the University of Cincinnati basketball teams which reached the NCAA Final Four in 1992 and Elite Eight in 1993, is returning to his alma mater as interim assistant coach.
Blount, 36, will take over the assistant position on the UC staff created by the resignation of Keith LeGree last week.
"Corie has been a part of Cincinnati basketball's recent success and history, and coupled with the fact that he played on UC's Final Four team and in the NBA for 11 years, he will provide some much needed experience and knowledge for our players," stated UC head coach Andy Kennedy.
A first round draft pick by the Chicago Bulls following his UC career, Blount is an 11-year veteran of the National Basketball Association, playing for Chicago (1993-95), the Los Angeles Lakers (1995-98), Cleveland (1998-99), Phoenix (1999-2001), Golden State (2001), Philadelphia (2002), Chicago (2003-04) and Toronto (2004).
Blount retired prior to the start of the 2004-05 season but attempted a comeback last fall with the Lakers. He had career averages of 3.6 points and 4.2 rebounds.
Blount averaged 9.4 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.5 blocked shots during his two seasons as a Bearcat.
You mean a former Huggins player, one those evil UC student athletes that wasn’t up to Queen Nancy’s lofty standards, is good enough to be an assistant coach? Perhaps the “Fire Nancy” chants at the game are finally starting to open her eyes.
Re: UC hires Corie Blount as assistant coach
I'm glad to see Corie back. I was always a big fan of his. I consider him the prototypical Huggins-era Bearcat. Big, strong, tough, and fierce. Oh, and big.
He was in class every single day, without fail. No doubt a team requirement, but still. He worked in class, he worked in the gym, and he worked on the floor. After it was all over, he got to play with Michael Jordan.
Not too shabby.
