what was your favorite zany baker move as manager
MIne was a few years ago I think Heisey hit three home runs vs Yankees but of course was on the bench the next day, I am sure Baker's quote, if he was even asked, and if he even deigned to answer was something along the lines of "We gotta get X player going"

Maybe just because it is on the top of our recent memories, but:
Moving Ludwick to the 2-hole for the 3 most important games of the year and then Wild Card game even though it didn't work at all for the first 3.
Nothing indicates he is remotely close to a 3, 4, 5 hitter, let alone a 2 hitter. It was a head scratcher from the start. Ironically he did have a very good Wild Card game, but that doesn't excuse the decision.

A Baker's dozen...
I don't think Baker should get complete blame for some of these. Walt, Dick Pole, even Price were probably involved in some of these decisions or responsible for leaving Dusty in a position with no real alternatives. The players didn't always help Dusty out either.
1. Aaron Harang starting on short rest after pitching 4 innings of relief in San Diego.
2. Pushing 22 Y/O Homer Bailey to 200+ IP in 2009 when he hadn't pitched more than 145 in any previous season.
3. Leaving Cueto in too long in the wild card game and then going to Logan Ondrusek of all people ... may as well have just forfeited that game.
4. Willy Taveras, any time, any place.
5. Line-ups, nearly every day....
6. Saving the pen in the final week of 2013 with the season circling the drain and off days coming up.
7. Bunting with the big boys (no problem bunting Phillips though).
8. Got completely out-managed in the 2012 play-off with SF.
9. Batting out of order ...
10. Allowing Bronson Arroyo to make every start in 2011 when he was obviously weak and inadequate from his illness.
11. Allowing certain stats like saves and wins to influence how and when he made moves during games.
12. Not telling certain players to shut-up when tweeting and talking was getting out of hand.
13. Disdaining the idea of a platoon at certain positions when the personnel called for it and then setting his line-ups with specific platoon match-ups dictating the order.

one of my favorites is a 0-0 game against the dodgers , lets bring in Curtis Partch instead of chapman becase "the book" says so

Another classic episode of Baker being outmatched in a strategy game.
what was your favorite zany baker move as manager
Winning 90 games three times after a decade of sub .500 performances
Re: what was your favorite zany baker move as manager
Drew Stubbs started 6 straight games and was 0-26.....then started the next game of course.
Played Drew Stubbs in 77 consecutive games and also another 70+ games streak.....played in 158 games in one season, 98% starts....because "there wasn't anyone else"

This thread is akin to Marty telling a reporter that Dusty showed no leadership...after he was fired.
The man is gone, we won't have him to kick around anymore. He did a lot of good things here, and I appreciate him for those things. The good outweighed the bad. As far as what is posted above, that's all been hashed and rehashed. 6 years is a long run in the MLB world, and I agree that it was time for Dusty to go.
I don't feel good about piling on, though. To keep it in perspective, I'd like to see a thread comparing the managerial rein of Dusty with that of Boone, Miley, and Narron. I didn't like it one bit when Dusty was hired, but through the years came to respect and like him as a manager of men.
Re: what was your favorite zany baker move as manager
good point but to be scientific probably narron, miley did not have the talent to manage that baker did
