Cingrani leaves in 4th with back injury
Greg Reynolds pitched a complete game in AAA today and would obviously on turn if Cingrani needs at least one start skipped.

Reds left-hander Tony Cingrani left Tuesday’s game in the fourth inning with an apparent injury.
Pitching coach Bryan Price went to the mound to check on Cingrani after the rookie gave up a two-out double to Arizona’s Aaron Hill with two outs in the fourth inning. Price then called trainer Paul Lessard to the mound, who was followed closely by manager Dusty Baker. After a short discussion, Price called to the bullpen to get Alfredo Simon ready and Cingrani left the game.

Gameday confirms that it was a back injury.

Lower back strain official diagnosis.
Re: Cingrani leaves in 4th with back injury
Well, the good news is Reynolds would pitch Sunday against the Brewers and not in the Cards series. There is also an off day next week, so maybe they won't have to DL him.

A strain is worse than a sprain, no?
Re: Cingrani leaves in 4th with back injury
Paging Dan Haren. Reynolds and Venereal don't cut it.

Im not a doctor and just speculating but in this situation a strain might be worse because we are talking about muscles in the back.
Re: Cingrani leaves in 4th with back injury
Fingers crossed it's not too bad.

Not really, no.

Dan Corcino, you're officially on backup (after Reynolds). Good thing he has a 3.69 ERA in AAA since July 5.
Who knows - maybe Stephenson really does make the show this year (half kidding)

Yeah, I'm not a doctor, and I realize it's not always clear since there's a wide range in both diagnoses. I guess in any case it's a matter of severity. Which we don't know.
Re: Cingrani leaves in 4th with back injury
Well, the silver lining is it's not like the Reds training staff has had any trouble diagnosing injuries correctly or getting players back on the field this year.
Re: Cingrani leaves in 4th with back injury

No. Medically, a strain simply refers to a muscle or tendon injury. A sprain refers to a ligament injury.
In everyday use, the two are often used interchangeably, which is incorrect.
