Milton declares for free agency
Milton files for free agency
Left-hander's tenure in Cincinnati likely ends with move
By Mark Sheldon / MLB.com
CINCINNATI -- Eric Milton hasn't thrown a pitch since May, but his three-year stint with the Reds likely concluded on Tuesday when he filed to become a free agent.
Milton, 32, was 0-4 with a 5.17 ERA in six starts before going on the disabled list with a torn ligament in his left elbow. He had season-ending Tommy John elbow reconstruction surgery on June 15.
A former All-Star who successfully pitched for the Twins from 1998-2003 and the Phillies in 2004, Milton signed a three-year, $25.5 million free agent contract with the Reds on Dec. 27, 2004. It didn't pay off, as the left-hander went 16-27 with a 5.83 ERA in 66 starts for Cincinnati. In 2005, he allowed a club-record and National League-leading 40 home runs.
In 2006, Milton had two stints on the DL -- including one for a sore elbow that required arthroscopic surgery on Sept. 22.
Let's not all cry at once<sarcasm>
Re: Milton declares for free agency
I really feel sorry for all the kids that would show up to reds games expecting to catch some HR's when he pitched.
Re: Milton declares for free agency
I wonder who will pick him up
Re: Milton declares for free agency

A total of 43 players filed for free agency on Tuesday, following the 57 that filed on the first day of eligibility. Players have 10 days from Sunday's conclusion of the World Series to file.
Clubs have exclusive negotiating rights until Monday, Nov. 12.
This means the Reds are the only team Milton can negotiate with until Nov.12. We may yet see the return of the Milton!:scared:

My god!! don't talk like that
Re: Milton declares for free agency
Milton could be good in Stadiums such as San Diego, Oakland or the Yankees could use them against lefties to protect against the right field porch.
Ah, who am I kidding? :D
Re: Milton declares for free agency
You know people have been talking abut getting Dunn a left handed batting practice pitcher. I think that job has Milton's name all over it.:D
Re: Milton declares for free agency
Milton will sign with someone cheap and be good as a lefty specialist and pitch for another 10 years ala Greg Swindell.
Re: Milton declares for free agency
I was thinking the same thing, Milton would be awesome pitching in Oakland. Heck, everyone is awesome pitching in Oakland's ballpark. Just look at Mike Moore, Kirk Saarloos, Bob Welch, Mike Norris or Rick Langford. They were average or poor pitchers on other teams, but pitching in Oakland with that huge ballpark and 10 acres of foul ground and they start looking like Cy Young. I think that would be a great landing spot for Milton. Seemed like a nice guy, so hopefully can land and do well for someone, just glad to see him leave Cincy, just wasn't a good fit.

If he was nice, he would have declined the option on that third year of his contract. ;)

Could you imagine Harang pitching in Oakland? 20+ wins.

Bob Welch was pretty ding dang good in LA too, he just drank a little too much and struggled he doesnt really belong with those other pitchers.
Re: Milton declares for free agency
Your correct, Welch was a decent pitcher with the Dodgers, but he never came close to pitching as good as he did in Oakland. For goodness sakes, he won 25 games in one season. He never did anything like that with the Dodgers, and should have since that is a pitchers friendly park as well during that time. I'll replace Welch's name on my list with Steve McCatty
