Mariners sign former Reds #1 draft pick

The Mariners signed minor league pitcher Mike Nannini and assigned him to Class AAA Tacoma. Nannini, a right-hander who was the Cincinnati Reds' first-round draft pick in 1998, was released by the Reds' Class AA Chattanooga team. To make room for Nannini, pitcher Mike Hrynio was transferred to the Everett AquaSox roster.

I thought Kearns was the 1st round pick in '98.

Astros bust, not ours. I knew that name did not sound familiar. Not too many 1st rounders not known either by playing or as a by-word around these parts, and that one did not ring a bell.
Re: Mariners sign former Reds #1 draft pick
Nannini had pitched 11.2 innings and had a .94 WHIP with 10 K's and 3 BB's.
Why did he get released? Why sign him to begin with?

I thought this was going to be about Chat Mottola
Re: Mariners sign former Reds #1 draft pick
I think there just wasn't much room. Nannini had already been bounced back and forth between Sarasota and Chattanooga.
He's a solid org-soldier- puts up excellent K/BB ratios, but every other year he gets mauled. But I think he was a DanO pick and a DanO re-signing, too.

Chad could run for mayor of Syracuse, NY and probably win..he is now a long time resident of the AA city of the Blue Jays.
Re: Mariners sign former Reds #1 draft pick
How many first round picks from 1998 were in our organization at one time?
Off the top of my head I can think of (Kearns, Lopez, and Mike Nannini....)
Can anyone think of anyone else?
