Micah Owings finally comes to the Reds, B. Phillips to 60 day DL
Per team press notes. Don't know if Owings will report straight to Cincinnati or if he'll be shut down, but at least he's finally in the organization now. Phillips was put on the 60 day to make room.

Good to hear, that must mean his shoulder checked out OK.

Looks like he won't be shutdown.
From Fay:
Micah Owings was sent to the Reds from Arizona to complete the Adam Dunn deal. Owings, a right-hander, will join the Reds in time for tonight's game with the Diamondbacks.
Worst-kept secret in the baseball is no longer a secret. I assume he's healthy -- injured played can't go through waivers.
From the Reds:
Today the Reds acquired from the Diamondbacks RHP Micah Owings (#56) to complete the 8/11 trade that sent OF Adam Dunn and cash to Ari for RHP Dallas Buck and 2 players to be named later...on 8/14 the Reds received C/IF/OF Wilkin Castillo...Owings, 25, this season went 6-9, 5.93 in 18 starts and 4 relief apps for the D'Backs. To make room on the 40-man roster, 2B Brandon Phillips (broken right index finger) went on the 60-day disabled list.

No room. Gotta make sure Cabrera, Hairston, and Patterson get more at-bats in the OF.

Micah Owings wore #44 with the D-Backs but according to the Reds website he'll wear #56 with the Reds. My guess is they're saving #44 for Eric Davis.

I may have missed it, but does Owings being in the trade mean that he also cleared waivers...if so, I'm suprised no one else tried to pluck him.

Maybe we will get to see him pinch hit against the Diamondbacks?
:D

Yep, it means he cleared every team with a worse record than ours.

Don't know about playing him in left, but certainly bat him 4th.

If he is healthy, give him some starts in September. He had 8 quality starts in April/May before the injury problems.

Why would anyone claim him now? It wouldn't get them anything other than some hard feelings.

Yes, but every team in the league knew this deal was going to happen. To claim him would have just delayed Owings' arrival here until the offseason. The guy has value, but only spite would have moved another team to deprive the Reds 2.5 weeks of the guy's services.

That was the work of Walt working the phones to make sure no one messed up his trade by claiming Owens. Smart.
