Tim Duncan takes 10 mil. LESS than what he was entitled to receive in extension
2 yrs./40 million... could have received 50, but wanted to leave his team with ample cap space to keep the squad at a championship level.
That is damn impressive.
The anti-Pay-Rod/Boras?

Duncan knows that he is set for the rest of his life, and you are going to be judged by the number of rings you have and not the size of the rims on your hummer.
I also think that he knows it's no fun to play for a team that has no chance to win it all, reguardless of the money you make.

"Anti" is a strong word with negative connotations. It's just a different mindset. I don't see a right or wrong.
We live in a capitalist society. If someone has the chance to get paid, it's tough to blame them. Athletes only get paid as much as they do because owners agree to the contract.
Add in the salary cap that baseball doesn't have, and the NBA is far less capitalistic.

I don't think that's necessarily true, Guttle. At least that's not how I intended it...
I was thinking more along the lines of antithesis, defined as the rhetorical contrast of ideas by means of parallel arrangements of words, clauses, or sentences.

I know what you're saying, but when you call something impressive and then use "anti", it kind of comes off negative. Not trying to be argumentative, but that's how I read it.

I gotcha. I am prolly being a little passive-aggressively negative towards Pay-Rod, although in theory I do totally agree with what you say about this being a capitalistic society and everyone should get what they are "worth" as defined by the market in which they exist.
(prolly what is still rubbing me the wrong way about A-Rod is the INCREDIBLY poor timing of his announcement)

Someone should sticky this thread as an example for future RedsZoners. This is the most peaceful disagreement I've ever seen between two members of a message board.

I'd be curious to know how the offer happened. Did duncan approach the Spurs or did someone on the spurs actually come to him with a non-max offer? If so that shows they either have some guts or just know their guy really well to know ho he'd react.
