Jordan Danks, OF, White Sox: The University of Texas product has spent two seasons in Triple-A, and his left-handed bat -- combined with closeness to the big leagues -- could intrigue many teams

Should the Reds consider Danks if he is available when its their turn to pick? What are some thoughts about him?

At best, he would be 6th on the Reds outfield depth chart on the 40 man roster. Pass.
Re: 2011 Rule V Draft Discussion Thread
Depends on if we have any trades in the works. If we do, it's more than likely we'll be losing an OF, and beyond Phipps there isn't really much in AAA.
Re: 2011 Rule V Draft Discussion Thread
Probably everyone has seen this but I'll mention it in case someone hasn't. Jocketty says in his comments on the team web page that they're trying to make a trade to move up in the draft order--so there must be somebody there they think worth taking.

Know anything about Brad Meyers? Impressive walk rate and seems as if he might be major-league ready, just looking at his numbers (and age).

Brad Meyers, RHP, Nationals: Meyers has pitched well at every stop along the way in the Nats' system. He had a 3.18 ERA (fifth in the system) between Double-A and Triple-A while walking just one batter every nine innings.
Re: 2011 Rule V Draft Discussion Thread
No on Danks, not another older, high K low contact University of Texas outfielder.
My guess is that they are looking for a right handed power arm, that could stick in the bullpen.
Re: 2011 Rule V Draft Discussion Thread
Damnit I woke up an hour too early. Oh well. I have feeling that one of our guys is going to be taken. I'll have coverage either way.

That would really surprise me, simply because they left off Josh Ravin, who fits that profile already. High end power arms that don't have warts aren't available today. Guys like Josh Ravin might be, but we already have one and didn't protect him.

Yeah, gotta be a reliever of some stripe or a utility INF. Can't see a starter or an OF. But it'll be a nice distraction whoever they pick, if they pick.

No Reds taken in Major League phase of the Rule V Draft.
