Sheldon announces some new uniform #s on blog

Now without further adieu, here are some uniform numbers for new Reds players:
Pitchers:
Andrew Brackman: No. 50
Josh Judy: No. 56
Mat Latos: No. 55
Ryan Madson: No. 46
Sean Marshall: No. 51
Position players:
Ryan Ludwick: No. 48
Denis Phipps: No. 23
Non-roster pitchers/players:
LHP Ron Mahay: No. 58
LHP Clay Zavada: No. 82
C Dioner Navarro: No. 30
Still missing are a couple of guys, like Willie Harris and Jeff Francis, and Wilson Valdez. And I noticed Carlos Fisher still had No. 46 also. There could be some changes between now camp opening and then again Opening Day. So if I were you, I might hold off ordering a new jersey, just in case.

I would be shocked if Mes isn't wearing 36 come camp.
Re: Sheldon announces some new uniform #s on blog
Interesting that Phipps was given a low (sub 50s) number. Tells me he's seen as viable OF depth for 2012, at least at the moment.

Was kinda surprised Latos didn't take 36 or 37 after having 38 in SD. 55 is a pretty cool number though. Good number for an ace, IMO.
The low numbers still open are 9, 15, 16, 17, and 26. Valdez will have one of them. Harris will probably have another. Francis will probably have 26, as that's what he's had his whole career.

Guess I will have to wait on the Valdez jersey!

Getting assigned a number in the 80's can't make Zavada feel warm and fuzzy about making the club.
Re: Sheldon announces some new uniform #s on blog
Reds catchers don't seem to like single numbers.

I'm glad Bruce didn't switch, thus deeming my #32 authentic obsolete.

I'm sure it was his first choice. He's pretty much a lock to make the team.
Re: Sheldon announces some new uniform #s on blog
I always thought Stubbs should go back to #7 if Janish wasn't on the roster.
Also thought that Mez should have a better number than #39 (perhaps #15?)
I like Latos at #55 and Cozart at #2.
This stuff sure is important ;)

I thought he shoulda had 9, but apparently he wore 36 in the minors, and 39 was as close as he could get. As was mentioned a few posts ago, he'll probably go back to 36 now with Volquez gone (thank God).

Funny because that seemed to be the rule when I was a kid. Bailey and Edwards were #6, Pavletich was #8. Coker was #7 and Plummer #9. Hal King was also #6. Of course, Bench was #5. Those are off the top of my head, but I am sure there were others.

Wasn't Dave Parker 39? You could do worse.

Man, I loved Dave Parker as a Red. Played for them while I was attending OU, the only time this Indiana native has lived in Ohio amongst my fellow Reds fans. Plenty of Reds fans in Indiana too, of course, but too many Cubs and Cards followers.
