Britney Spears to Deliver Baby Live in September
By Chip Hilton
Jul 23, 2005, 10:17
HOLLYWOOD - Britney Spears, not content to let her sister, Jamie-Lynn, break the news that Britney is due to give birth to her first baby in September, announced yesterday that the birth will be televised on a special two-hour live segment of her reality show, Britney and Kevin: Chaotic. Spears told reporters that she was "taking this high-risk artistic move in an effort to claim ownership of our own miracle."
"Rather than allowing the False Tabloids?© to control and distort the coverage of this unique event," said Spears, "we have decided to provide our fans with the actual raw, maybe even yucky, footage and let them come to their own conclusions."
Spears' publicist, Sonia Muckle, immediately praised the decision for its courage and artistic daring.
"This is an Emmy-worthy innovation," said Muckle. "No artist but Britney would have the courage to be this vulnerable."
Officials at Viacom—the eight-hundred-pound entertainment gorilla that owns the UPN Network, MTV, and Comedy Central, among other properties—were predictably delighted by Spears' announcement.
"We expect ad revenues for this unprecedented live event to reach Super Bowl proportions," said Viacom chairman and CEO, Sumner Redstone. "Britney is capable of delivering not only a baby girl but also the coveted thirteen-to-seventeen-year-old-male demographic like no other performer, pregnant or otherwise."
Redstone was quick to point out that Spears' delivery would be handled "entertainingly, not like some dull educational production on the Discovery Channel." The Kevin Federline Dancers will open and close the show. MTV news correspondent and hip-hop artist Sway Calloway will handle play-by-play announcing. Color commentary will be provided by The Daily Show's host, Jon Stewart. Paris Hilton has been signed to do roving interviews outside the CBS studio where the delivery will take place.
"With a lineup like that, the show will be a smash even if the baby's born with a club foot," joked comedienne and fashionista Joan Rivers. After making a tasteless comment about finding out whether Britney is a real blonde, Rivers added, "I pity the person who has to do the makeup and comb-out for that gig."
In addition to being covered live no matter when it occurs, Spears' delivery will go into heavy rotation on MTV, VH-1, Comedy Central, and The Sundance Channel..

Re: Britney Spears to give birth LIVE on television
This isn't nearly enough for me. I want to see her raise this lucky child.
Let's do a Truman spinoff with Brittney.

Re: Britney Spears to give birth LIVE on television
I really think this is the niche that's lacking in the reality TV world - Live births.

This has "The Onion" written all over it. No way it's true.

Re: Britney Spears to give birth LIVE on television
Seems to be some truth to this potentially.

Pop sensation BRITNEY SPEARS has reportedly agreed to screen the birth of her baby on the next series of her reality TV show BRITNEY AND KEVIN: CHAOTIC.
In a bid to beat pop rival JESSICA SIMPSON's show NEWLYWEDS, the MY PREROGATIVE hitmaker has decided to allow cameras at the intimate moment, to boost lacklustre ratings.
The baby is due later this year (05) and will be Spears' first child and husband KEVIN FEDERLINE's third.
A source told British tabloid The Daily Star, "Britney was in two minds about the birth even after she'd decided to do a one-off special to introduce the little one to the world.
"It'd be a follow-up to the series and also a great record for them. It's just like the proud dad taping the event.
"Cameras won't roll through the most intimate parts but there will be scenes included."

You'll probably have to wait for the DVD version.

Nope, not buying it. This quote:

Just seemed too damn silly. An "artistic move"?

Re: Britney Spears to give birth LIVE on television
I can't believe she's even thinking of using the birth of her baby to make money and increase her popularity etc..,
How utterly self-centered of her.
Sad.

Re: Britney Spears to give birth LIVE on television
The above story may be fake. Of course, it wouldn't shock me if she wanted to televise the conception and the birth of her child.

Well, she simulated the act of conception on a regular basis during her concerts, complete with actual beds (plural) and all, so what you're talking about would only be the same thing minus a few threads of clothing.
I think the original story in this thead is satire, but this person absolutely disgusts me, regardless.

I just wonder if Britney has given up smoking yet.

Re: Britney Spears to give birth LIVE on television
It's been my experience that babies pay no attention to their due date and arrive without any regard for the time of day. Therefore, how can we possibly be expected to Tivo this live event? ;)

Britney can schedule a C-Section.

I've recently learned the new thing is to schedule induction a week before the due date. Seems all the Dr's around here are doing it. That way they can have more control over their schedules. Guess it's time to buy stock in whatever company produces pitocin.

If that's the route she goes, then I don't think anyone who is squeamish (like me) will want to watch. I have to turn my head from some of the special effects on ER. No way do I want to watch a C-section. <shudder>

Boy, I have mixed feelings about that.

I've heard this was being done for Hollywood types a few weeks before the due date. The schedule argument is a red herring–this is being done to minimize stretch marks.
I think we discussed this in the thread once.

Well I know a woman who had this done last week. She wasn't that thrilled with the idea (I'm guessing you have never had pitocin, un) ;) But this was the Dr's policy. With her it had nothing to do with stretch marks.
Plus the stretch marks are there well before week 39.
I have mixed feelings just like GL. I had a planned c-section (creek jr was transverse and 10lbs - too big to turn). His due date was 4 Jun, we waited until 31 May for the section because both the Dr and I wanted his lungs to be as mature as possible. A due date is a due date. I don't think anyone needs to be messing with the time it takes for a baby to mature.

Dear CrackerJack:
We are little taken aback by the forcefulness of your comments. Can you really fault Britney for simply giving the public what they want?
Sincerely,
Trista and Ryan

Re: Britney Spears to give birth LIVE on television
My wife had a C-Section with Baby BuckU in March. Around 10p.m. the Doctor conveniently scheduled an operation at 10:30. My wife was dilated to 7 and making good progress. Suddenly the Doctor tells us his news. It wasn’t till after the fact that we both wondered why he scheduled it. It seemed as if he didn’t want to be come in late or in the middle of the night so he just got it over with.
We just feel he screwed the whole thing up by giving her Pitocin as soon as we got to the hospital since she was on the Pitocin she wasn’t able to be out of her bed and get an assist from gravity.
Bad, bad, experience. (not the hospital but my wife’s OB)
