Will Brandon Phillips take a walk this year?
BP and Harang are the only ones not to draw a walk today......I'm beginning to think it might not ever happen. I can live with if he keeps hitting .350, but that's obviously not going to happen. He needs to learn how to take a walk to maximize his potential IMO.
Re: Will Brandon Phillips take a walk this year?
We'll see when the other teams stop throwing him meatballs, if he swings at garnage then we have a problem
Re: Will Brandon Phillips take a walk this year?
Kearns had only 1 in his first 50 ABs

OK, never mind. Swing away kid, swing away. He's got to be player of the week this week I'd think.
He's now at 17 RBI for the week.
Re: Will Brandon Phillips take a walk this year?
Does he need to right now?

"He's now at 17 RBI for the week."
Actually he's at four...today is Sunday :)
Re: Will Brandon Phillips take a walk this year?
If he keeps hitting, I odn't care.

Re: Will Brandon Phillips take a walk this year?
Sucks cause he's not listed in yahoo fantasy baseball.
Re: Will Brandon Phillips take a walk this year?
yes he is, click on RBI and he'll jump right out in your face
Re: Will Brandon Phillips take a walk this year?
Is this thread serious? We should ride this hot streak out and enjoy it from him. Why worry????
Re: Will Brandon Phillips take a walk this year?
Why on earth would he try to take a walk right now? He's as hot right now as anyone on the planet.
Re: Will Brandon Phillips take a walk this year?
You take what they give you.
Plate discipline is somewhat of a "knock" on Phillips. But he's young.
Re: Will Brandon Phillips take a walk this year?
If he keeps this pace up he'll get plenty of walks . . .intentional :D
Re: Will Brandon Phillips take a walk this year?
Dunn walks too much, Philips not enough. Another day without the lithium here at Redszone.
Re: Will Brandon Phillips take a walk this year?
I'm loving this hot streak as much as anyone, BUT BP DOES have a history of poor plate discipline. Hopefully that is something that he's willing to work on as the season wears on.
As for now, though, keep swinging that sweet stick, BP!!
Re: Will Brandon Phillips take a walk this year?
Actually he does not have a history of not taking walks. He averaged about 40 BB per 500 ABs at buffalo the last couple years. While that is not great, it is acceptable given everything else he brings. The problem with his approach however has been swinging for the fences rather than spraying the ball as he can.
He'll get his walks. I am not worried about that. He is just seeing better pitches in this lineup than he did with the tribe a few years back.

I found him,thanks ice.
Re: Will Brandon Phillips take a walk this year?
Another thing I like about him (and a reason he may not walk much) is the fact that dude absolutely CROWDS the plate when he hits. This gives him a lot more plate coverage to be able to effectively hit some pitches that may be a bit out of the zone. Conversely he has the bat speed to get around on some inside heat.
Re: Will Brandon Phillips take a walk this year?
I don't like his plate discipline. But, what I do like from what I have seen is his ability to recognize a curveball and nail it. The Brewers have fed him breaking balls all weekend and he has hit them hard.
Then, he jacks a three run homer off the best fastball in the NL today.
He reminds me quite a bit of Soriano with his swing.
