Cubs vs. Reds - Thursday 9/15/2011
Quote:
Brandon Phillips 4
Drew Stubbs 8
Joey Votto 3
Yonder Alonso 7
Chris Heisey 9
Todd Frazier 5
Ryan Hanigan 2
Paul Janish 6
Homer Bailey 1
I have come to the sad realization that Dusty is bound and determined to put a crappy hitter in the two-hole. That's the way they did it when Dusty was a player, and he is pretty much stuck in a time warp. However, back then they at least put a crappy hitter in there that could handle the bat a little. Could make contact. Could take some pitches while the leadoff man
measured the pitcher and attempted a stolen base. Could hit to the right side. You could work the hit-and-run with. Sadly enough, Stubbs is lacking in all of these rudimentary skills. If he takes some pitches he will likely find himself in an 0-2 deathtrap. If he is asked to hit-and-run the end result is probably Brandon dusting himself off and jogging back to the dugout on a caught stealing. We are stuck with the toothpicked tactician this year, and likely next year as well. :(

Re: Cubs vs. Reds - Thursday 9/15/2011
What is wrong with Stubbs hitting second?
-
Re: Cubs vs. Reds - Thursday 9/15/2011
Homer is throwing batting practice out there.
-
Re: Cubs vs. Reds - Thursday 9/15/2011
well, his name is "Homer"...
-
Re: Cubs vs. Reds - Thursday 9/15/2011
And with two outs....Really sad how someone with so much talent just cant be consistant at all.

Oh, just about everything. I am sorry you can't see the reasons.

Re: Cubs vs. Reds - Thursday 9/15/2011
Reds have been coming up with the clutch strike out all year long.

No I see a kid who when he puts the bat on teh ball has a very good chance of getting on base...wow just like he did here in the first inning. Yes he strikes out alot, I have faith that has he improves he will cut down on those. Who would you have hitting second tonight?

His OPS is under .700. His OBP is barely over .300. Yeah, you want your crappy hitters to get up as much as possible. You and Dusty. Peas in a pod. He's fast so he has to bat at the top of the lineup. Whatever. The main problem is he doesn't put the bat on the ball very often. All those strikeouts should be a clue.

I see a kid struggling in his second full season, something many players do in their second season, I have faith he will improve and why not get him as many at bats as possible to work on things, it's not like this game means anything.

Okay so who should be batting second?
-
Re: Cubs vs. Reds - Thursday 9/15/2011
Wells must have a good changeup tonight. He made Heisey and Alonso look silly with it.

I see a player who is going to tease with his potential his entire career. He is making absolutely no progress. You hit him at second. Your teams will lose alot. Just like Dusty's.
-
Re: Cubs vs. Reds - Thursday 9/15/2011
If I was manager Jay Bruce. Maybe Ryan Hanigan. Someone who would get on base for Joey Votto. That will never happen with Drew Stubbs.
-
Re: Cubs vs. Reds - Thursday 9/15/2011
Getting on base is 10 times more important than being fast. 100 times. 1,000 times. Infinity times.
-
Re: Cubs vs. Reds - Thursday 9/15/2011
I think Cozart is suited well for the 2 hole.

I guess we see different things from Stubbs in teh future, you see someone who has maxed out his potential, I see someone who with the right coaching can become a very talented and producing CF for the Reds for the next 5-7 years...

Right coaching? He is on the wrong team then.

Re: Cubs vs. Reds - Thursday 9/15/2011
and what kind of "right coaching" is available with this mensa brain trust the reds have assembled

Exactly. Did Dunn get any better? Did Encarnacion? Did Kearns? Did Bruce? Did anyd*mnbody?
-
Re: Cubs vs. Reds - Thursday 9/15/2011
on this team if you do well like francisco yesterday, you get benched the next day, only if you perform like stubbs do you play every day
-
Re: Cubs vs. Reds - Thursday 9/15/2011
They just about buried Frazier. I guess we know where he stands in the eyes of Reds mismanagement.

Yes Dunn got better
Encarnacion was never that good
Kearns got hurt and that hampered his progress
Yes Bruce is getting better
Are you saying Votto hasn't gotten better?
What about Hanigan or Phillips or Heisey and such?
Am I a fan of the Reds major league coaching staff...not really but I am fan of some of their minor league instructors whom players like Stubbs will work with this offseason.

Re: Cubs vs. Reds - Thursday 9/15/2011
why the heck didnt he work last offseason
-
Re: Cubs vs. Reds - Thursday 9/15/2011
I wish Marty would just call the freaking ballgame so we would know what is going on.

Stop making sense.

Re: Cubs vs. Reds - Thursday 9/15/2011

Juan F. was always ahead of Frazier on the depth chart. It's only because Juan was hurt on and off this season that Frazier was up with the club and not Juan. Nothing shocking there.

2 seasons is enough to tell what a player can do? OMG:confused:

It seems to be enough in the case of Francisco. LOL.

How is that? The kid has been hurt for a decent portion of this season, now he is healthy he is getting playing time.
-
Re: Cubs vs. Reds - Thursday 9/15/2011
you like all the strike outs by stubbs, really good for a lead off hitter

Stubbs isn't a leadoff hitter yet. I think with work with the right person in the offseason he can reduce his K's next year by around maybe 50 or so and continue to improve. Sorry but I am not going to trash the young kid after 2 seasons, not smart baseball, especially when you have a limited budget.

Let him work on it down at the bottom of the order.
-
Re: Cubs vs. Reds - Thursday 9/15/2011
why does he merit the long look and not heisey, essentially he has played his way out of the position, heisey has more hrs and rbis in 300 less plate appearances!!!

Continue to improve? He's going backwards. That's the whole point. He is not improving. So how does he continue to improve?

If these games ment something I would agree, but they don't so why not get him as many AB's in a game as possible. What does it matter if we win or lose tonight?
