11:51 am No. I believe we will be very active. Always takes two to tango though.....
Do you guys think that this means that we are still shopping Harang and Aaroyo very hard?I imagine at least one of the big contracts on this team is moved before Aug. 31.
Ya know I think it means something completely different. The Reds FO attempt to make us believe they will be trading for and not away because they have it in them (but can't score 3 runs more often than not). Just read this laughable remark.
saintvic:
11:11 am Any chance of a BIG trade in August again?
bob_miller:
11:11 am Certainly. We'll see who clears waivers/gets claimed and who we can claim

The Yankees have made it clear that they will add another starting pitcher before Sept.. And Harang and Arroyo are the two best that definitely will get through waivers. The Yankees need a lefty in the pen badly, so I think if one of them goes, Rhodes goes with them to get better prospects.

I'm really hoping Harang and Aaroyo can pitch well over the next few weeks. Its not impossible and even likely that some contender becomes desperate for a starter by the end of August.A contending team in that position late in the season would be more likely to offer something decent or possibly even worth getting excited about for a hot Harang or Aaroyo then any team would this off season. It seems to me that there is a good chance that our guys could have a lot more value leading up to Aug. 31 then they did leading up to the actual trade deadline. This of course all hinges on Bronson and Aaron pitching well.I don't think that the chance this happens is a joke by any means. The likelihood that 2010 might depend on it is a much bigger joke imo.

You can use the stats if you want (his inept Major League stats), but I've seen Balentien play over 500 times. For a team desperate for any kind of Offense at all, who's hitting for average below what the REDS are this season, the Mariners let this guy go. They let him go because he's inept offensively. Not bad,....but, inept. FWIW, everybody hits at Tacoma.

No. Never. Ever. How many Jim Bowden Juan-Castro-types do you have to see before finally deciding that it's a bad idea?
Everybody hits at Tacoma in the PCL. It's a hitter's paradise. The Majors is a huge jump from AAA.
I've seen Balentien play several hundred times more than Jockety has seen hiim play and probably a couple of hundred times more than any REDS' scout has seen him play. Though that's irrelevant, as you should only need 7-8 at-bats to see how a player can hit.
Balentien is horrible offensively. Worse than horrible. He's inept.
PM me the day Balentien's National League Career OPS is above .700. You shouldn't have an outfielder below .800 unless he's your Centerfielder and plays great defense.

Just out of curiosity, Balentien has played 700 games in his career, both in the minors and at the ML level, in five different minor leagues and also the majors; at home and on the road. How is that you've seen him play the vast majority of those games?

You get about 4 at-bats per game and between Tacoma and Seattle, I've seen him play (bat) 500 times. A scout only needs to see someone play (bat) 7-8 times. He's had 400 at-bats in the Majors and 700 at-bats in the minors (just at Tacoma). Normally I wouldn't say this about anybody with his stats, and I could be dead wrong about this one. But, I see him bat, and I see someone who's outstanding in the minors and not in the majors (unless it's against minor league pitching in the Majors).

Bat and play would be generally not considered the same thing, but at least I understand where you're coming from. It struck me as meaning you'd been to 500 of his games.
We'll just have to see. I still don't see it as a bad attempt at something. You may well be right, but one never knows. Our club needs a lot more than Wladimir Balentien hitting, that's for sure.

Saying hes Juan Castro with less power is dead wrong.
Re: Bob Miller Chat transcript
Man some Juan Castro type power displayed tonight ;)

Agreed Juan Castro is such a poor comparison that it actually throws off everyone of the point. Juan Castro was always a no hit all glove SS, he never even had the talent to be comparable. If I am reading KP correctly and knowing what I know about Balentein he does have the talent but his skill level is fairly low Wily MO is a much better comparison. But I'll say this about that comparison from the little I have seen from Wlad he's less talented and more skilled than Wily Mo ever was and therefore may have a chance if his issue can be ironed out whatever it is, I haven't watched him enough to get a feel for it yet.
Re: Bob Miller Chat transcript
Willy Mo isnt even a good comp if you ask me. Willy never had a good walk rate. Nelson Cruz is who I would comp him to. Balentien has more speed, better contact, better patience compared to Willy.

Certainly but far closer to what KP was getting at IMO. Afterall Wily Mo was the epitomy of what Bowden longed for.
