My oldest daughter is an illustrator and Sendak was one of her heroes. Very talented artist, crafting stories that stretched kids' imagination. He died today at age 83.

Godspeed, Mr. Sendak. You made reading to my kids a treat.Quote:
And he sailed off through night and day
and in and out of weeks
and almost over a year
to where the wild things are.
Thanks to my sons, I have that book memorized now.
Mr. Sendak brought joy to countless people's lives.
If anyone gets a chance, watch his 2 part interview with Stephen Colbert, Maurice is hilarious.
my children's well-worn copy of "where the wild things are" is right here on the bookshelf next to me. also, after "pat the bunny" and "goodnight moon", of course, it was the next picture book i got each of my grandbabies...occasional wild things who have been known to make mischief of one kind or another.
the last couple of pages bring some comfort to max and the reader: "back...into the night of his very own room where he found his supper waiting for him..and it was still hot."
rest in peace, mr. sendak. you definitely won't be forgotten.
I can remember having that book when I was a youngin'. I saw where it was published in 1963 which is the year of my birth. Amazing how long lasting some books can be. R.I.P. Mr. Sendak. You brought a lot of enjoyment to me and millions of others.
While I don't subscribe to the deaths-come-in-threes bit (I think it has to do with when we stop counting), could there be a stranger trio than Adam Yauch, George "Goober" Lindsey, and Maurice Sendak?
I loved his writing, which spurred the imagination to wander on to wilder and darker places. "In the Night Kitchen" was probably my favorite.
