Re: Reds top prospect Q&A
Jeez, I love the kid. But hopefully he's not as blind to the fact that he indeed has a long swing as he seems. At any rate it loks like he would be the type to eventually find it and fix it whatever it is.
He also seems like the natural born leader type, that's a great quality to have with the mindset he has about winning. Here's to hoping he get's his wish of being a lifelong Red. :beerme:

An analogy would be a writer whose pencil keeps breaking--he can’t write efficiently because he has to keep sharpening it. Or maybe it’s like being a cook who doesn’t have any seasoning--you don’t have all of the ingredients you need.
These analogies just made Votto my favorite player.

JV: I obviously want to get to the big leagues, but I also try not to worry about things I can’t control. Regardless, I don’t want to get there because of a trade--I want it to happen because of what I’m doing on the field and deserve to get called up. And once I’m there, I want to be a career Red.
I just had a tiny orgasm.

Way more than I think any of us needed to know....
Re: Reds top prospect Q&A
Not that it means anything as to how he plays but I do like to see a young player like Votto show knowledge and respect to the past stars of the game like Williams, Musial and DiMaggio etc.. I have heard to many instances where young players have no clue or regard for the history of the game and could really care less about the players before them.
Votto seems like a quality kid that I am looking forward to see very soon!!
Re: Reds top prospect Q&A
I can just hear Votto saying all these things in a soft spoken, boyish manner. The dude is intelligent as all get out.
Here's a quick story about him, I might have told before:
I used to work with the Dragons in customer service/ticketing and other areas. One night I was working in the Party Deck and there was a handicapped child and his younger brother with him at their first baseball game ever. It started to pour before the game started and around 8:30 it got cancelled. The family had waited out the rain for over an hour and a half, hoping to get a glimpse of their first baseball game. The kids started to cry, and being a die hard baseball enthusiast, I felt their pain. I went down to the field level, hoping I could just get a couple baseballs for them. Votto was the closest one when I got down there, so I asked if he could grab a couple baseballs for the kids. He came back with two baseballs, borrowed a pen from a kid in the stands, and signed both baseballs for the kids. I didn't even ask him to sign them, but he knew it would be special. The kids almost lost it when they saw the baseballs and the parents were thrilled. I know there are two young kids that are big Joey Votto fans, and I promised them he would make it to the big leagues in a few years. I've been anticipating his arrival for many reasons, but one is to keep my promise to those kids. He's just a good dude (period).

This may come across as smug flag waving crap. Canadian kids seem to be very level headed and down to earth and every day I smile and am proud to watch and read of about Joey's success and hope to see him soon be a star with our beloved Reds.
Re: Reds top prospect Q&A
This leaves me very, very impressed with this kid - strikes me as an extremely smart player. I'm looking forward to his days as a Regleg!
Re: Reds top prospect Q&A
Hey, this is a nice q & a, however, the article appears to be part of BP's subscription service, not a free article. I don't want anyone getting in trouble.
Re: Reds top prospect Q&A
I agree about Joey sounding like a great guy. However my favorite part of the article was Joey stating his all-star game approach was to "try and hit it into McCovey Cove". It was just really unexpected after he was describing how he dislikes the typical all-star game mentality.
Re: Reds top prospect Q&A
Wow, great interview.
Can't wait to see him in Cincy.
Re: Reds top prospect Q&A
Yea, this article definately got me more excited about the Reds' future. Furthermore, I had not come across the Bruce quote that said, "he wanted to be a part of the next Big Red Machine." I just wish that Votto and Bruce could add the pop needed to Dunn, Hamilton, EdE and Phillips to see another great line-up in Cincinnati. Yea, I included Dunn in the Reds' future, I really don't see us getting his value back in a trade.
Re: Reds top prospect Q&A
Thanks for sharing! He sounds like a smart kid and very intelligent ballplayer.
