Ah, I see. Regardless he did not do it because of sabrmetrics. He did it to "shake things up."

Leyland isn't Baker. Leyland won a World Series.
I wonder which job is the most appealing.
I saw on Twitter that even John Fay believes that the Nats job is more appealing that the Reds. I wonder which is more appealing, Detroit or Cincy?
Paraphrasing the best line from his presser:
Quote:
"My wife and I were in church and I said, 'I just let one of my silent puffers, what should I do?' She said put a new battery in your hearing aid."
Jim Bowden ESPN article:

Quote:
However, I think the Tigers job is the best of the three, as they have strongest talent base for the next two years. The Nationals are right behind them in terms of talent, but they need someone who can come in with a long-term outlook, while the Reds lag behind just a little bit as their roster isn't quite as good as the Tigers' or Nationals'.
Also mentioned the same names that have popped up with our vacancy (LaRussa, Torre, Martinez, etc.)Quote:
Therefore, if I'm Dombrowski, the first two calls I make are to Dusty Baker and Charlie Manuel, to see if they want a two-year deal. Baker is just four years younger than Leyland, and Manuel is actually a year older, but both have made it clear they want to manage again.
Baker's last two years in Cincinnati ended with a thud, but it can't be forgotten that he made the playoffs both years, and he knows how to handle a veteran club. This Tigers roster is very similar to the one that Manuel had over the last few years in Philly, a lot of superstars on the back end of their prime years, so I'd be confident he'd be in his element. As an added bonus, Manuel recently won a World Series, in 2008.
Tigers job is easily better than the Reds job. Bigger payroll/top 5 market and the best starting rotation in baseball.
Its funny to read posts by Tiger fans on other boards calling for Kirk Gibson, Alan Trammell or Lou Whitaker to replace him. Reds fans are not alone in wanting their manager to be from their glorious past.
