Re: 2014 MLB Draft - Reds Picks and Signings
Hey. I'm in the IT industry. I've seen jobs go over sees and eat up salaries dry up over here. Did I like it? Hell no, but it was what it was. I dug harder for what I could get and waited until things came back around. If it bothered me that much I coulda bailed and found something else to do. Did I have a pitty party and whine like a little girl? No.
If these guys don't like it let'em find something to do with their brand new college degrees (if they don't have them yet, let them put those meager little bonuses to use by finishing them). So they got five or ten grand instead of fifty or 100 grand - well, boo-frickin'-hoo. At least they are getting paid to start a job before they've even hit a lick. They still were picked in the first ten rounds of the MLB draft. Let'em work hard and parlay that into millions (a chance that few in this country will have), but don't go creating a telethon for them.
Like I've already said. Life sucks - get a helmet! Words to live by.

It isn't about bailing and finding something better. If your co-worker, who doesn't have any more talent than you, were making 90% more than you because you entered the workforce a year older than he did, I promise you would not be happy about it and your answer wouldn't be "boo freaking hoo, me".
Re: 2014 MLB Draft - Reds Picks and Signings
Its the system and management is going to game the system just as the players and their agents are going to try to do. Their not get paid less because they're a year older, they're getting paid less because they have no leverage. Does it suck? Yeah. Is it some kind of tragedy? No, its the system. Did these guys get picked and choose school when they were High School Seniors, College Juniors? Maybe this is a lesson in making better choices. Were they not even chosen as Juniors? Maybe they should be thankful they were drafted at all.
There are Undrafted Free Agents who end up making better money than 5th, 6th or 7th rounders. Does it suck? Ummm...mebbe. Is it a tragedy? Nope, its leverage. And life.

I would think his arm injury played a bigger role than money as should Howard, Blandino and Sparks sign for their slot bonus the Reds are roughly 275,000 under the limit. Though I agree, I hope money was not a mitigating factor. It ought to be interesting to follow their career paths, particularly if Blandino is unable to remain at shortstop.

From what I understand about Wall, the arm injury will keep him limited to 2B, but shouldn't be a factor otherwise?

That was my understanding as well. But still, that's a really poor arm, even at second.

Is there a concern about Mitch Trees not signing and instead playing at the U. of Louisville for free? I hope we sign this kid; seemed like excellent value in the 11th round.

He was still playing in his state tournament as of last weekend and may take a little break following his season - possibly the same for Blandino out of Stanford.

Good to see! Young catching prospect with a lot of athleticism. Now, get the top three and Palacios in the folder and I'll be quite happy with this year's haul.
