9/10/2012 Pirates at Reds
Re: 9/10/2012 Pirates at Reds
Didi hit .243 and had a .288 OBP in Louisville this year. He is also an automatic out, just a younger version of it right now.
Re: 9/10/2012 Pirates at Reds
I was wondering if I'm crazy, because I seriously can't remember Valdez hitting one out of the infield in a long time. His chart shows that he's only hit 6 balls farther than 300 feet all season at home...and 5 of those were outs. Checked all his road games, and he only has 2 total balls farther than 300 feet, both outs.
I'm not picking on him, but I honestly didn't know he was such an extremely weak hitter. He really makes Janish appear Herculean.

^ Yeah, I cannot believe the guy actually hit 5 HR's in 2010-2011.

At least he can play defense.

Good post, and I know you're not picking on him. But I do think too much blame is being directed to Valdez. He cannot hit, no dispute. But he's a fringe backup player.
There are so many posts on RedsZone directed to Valdez. They really should be directed to the REGULAR players who have fallen into September swoons so far.
Funny thing is the only game the Reds won this weekend, Valdez got a key hit, albeit a swinging bunt, but it produced two runs. And he fouled off a gazillion pitches, a very fine at bat in a key spot.
Valdez is what he is, a versatile backup player who can't hit. More of the guys who CAN hit need to do so.
Re: 9/10/2012 Pirates at Reds
Valdez knows his role. His filling in for CF during a big road trip (was it the west coast trip?) might have been his most important job this season so far.
Re: 9/10/2012 Pirates at Reds
Dusty should have considered moving the pitcher up a spot.

It was at CitiField. I was at one of the games. LOL, CF could be his best position!

I'm with Dusty on this one: after losing two out of three to the Astros, needing to get back on track in the win column and with a chance to finish off the Pirates, I go with the vet over the rookie.

That's my thinking too. Valdez did hit one to the warning track in cf in the Astro series. I believe that was the furthest he has hit one this season.

Out of 397 MLB players with >125 abs this year....the Reds have the 2nd and 5th worst OPS performers in Valdez (#2) and Cairo (#5)

Really, when you think about it, it's amazing how well the Reds have done this season with such a putrid bench and considering the injuries they have had.
Re: 9/10/2012 Pirates at Reds
Wandy has pitched very well his last two times out against Houston and before that Cards. Both were at home.
Latos has been tremendous since June, except for that recent outing against the Cards.
I only posted this to try and end the discussion of Valdez for awhile, as fascinating as Wilson may be.
