He has the strength of a power hitter, but his swing doesn't necessarily generate as much power for a corner position that you'd like. His arm is strong, but his throwing mechanics needs some work. There's supposedly a limited amount of concern about his ability to hit breaking balls, but with how many high schoolers isn't that a concern?
Re: Official 2012 Draft Day Thread (Day 2)
O'Brien just went to the Yankees. Walker to the Twins. Reds up in 10 picks as the third round is well underway.
Barrett and Mooneyham are two college pitchers to keep an eye on here.
Re: Official 2012 Draft Day Thread (Day 2)
O'Brien and Barrett are completely signable and talented

Thanks Cam
Re: Official 2012 Draft Day Thread (Day 2)
Wish the Reds had grabbed O'Brien but I like Rahier just as much
Re: Official 2012 Draft Day Thread (Day 2)
There goes Romero. Still like Barrett or Mooneyham for the Reds here.
Austin Barr is a HS C to keep an eye on for the next couple rounds.
Re: Official 2012 Draft Day Thread (Day 2)
Looks like the Reds can draft one of the players on Benihana's list.
Re: Official 2012 Draft Day Thread (Day 2)
Re: Official 2012 Draft Day Thread (Day 2)
Daniel Langfield is the Reds pick
Re: Official 2012 Draft Day Thread (Day 2)
Dan Langfield U of Memphis rhp, can throw it up to 97, good slider that moves, "clearly a reliever" but can bring it
Re: Official 2012 Draft Day Thread (Day 2)
Re: Official 2012 Draft Day Thread (Day 2)
college arm, has good fastball and slider with movement, is signable and should move quickly
Re: Official 2012 Draft Day Thread (Day 2)
It's interesting. Buckley has really focused on pitchers who can dial it up this draft.
The experts seem to think he's a reliever. This pick could be a little high for a reliever, unless the Reds seem his as a starter. He looks like a good arm, though.
Re: Official 2012 Draft Day Thread (Day 2)
Does he throw strikes or is he walking in Memphis?
Re: Official 2012 Draft Day Thread (Day 2)
Langfield- not bad. They say he's "clearly a reliever." Needs better command. Could be the right-handed Donnie Joseph, maybe more (better fastball).
BA has him #60, Sickels #77. Seems like decent value and I don't mind drafting relievers so long as it's after the first two rounds.
