Bruce Historical Comparison?
Jay Bruce is now 10 for his first 17 with 4 walks and 7 runs scored. OBP of .667
Does anyone have a way to do a historical analysis to see how this ranks with the all-time best ML debuts? Has anyone in the history of the game ever had a hotter start? This is absolutely amazing to me.

The 1977 Minor League Player of the Year Ted Cox came up with the Red Sox and went six for six to start his career. Cox ended up a short career with a career average in the .240's, but he was package the following winter with (former Red) Bo Diaz for future Hall of Famer Dennis Eckersley.

Re: Bruce Historical Comparison?
Don Zimmer told the Sox brass that Cox had a slow bat......so they shined him up...as they like to say around here and made him attractive to another team....like a bad Indians FO who figured this guy's numbers would appeal to the masses.
I guess this was a case of a baseball man's eyes...overriding what the stats actually said.

Re: Bruce Historical Comparison?
C'mon you guys no bettter than this.......you don't compare Jay Bruce to historical figures, you compare historical figures to Jay Bruce.
If he keeps this up the comparison will be with a certain Jewish carpenter from Nazareth a few years back. ;)
