If we miss the playoffs by one game..
Night after night, day after day, we hear/read excuse after excuse about why we didnt do this, why we didnt do that, we read that we cant make this trade because of money...we read that so and so couldnt pitch, wasnt available, the bullpen was light, well, all of this is costing us games NOW...and I swear, im going to be uber pissed about issues like Cochran batting tonight with the bases loaded, if we end up missing the playoffs by one game.
Re: If we miss the playoffs by one game..
if we miss by 1 game we wouldnt be winning the WS anyway. The playoffs arent that great if ur not winning it all. no point trading the farm just to win a series.
Re: If we miss the playoffs by one game..
From John Fay:
“We were hoping he’d strike out or pop up,” Baker said.
The Reds would have hit for Reineke under normal circumstances.
“With a full bullpen, yeah,” Reds manager Dusty Baker said. “That’s our chance to get back in the game.”
But the Reds were operating with a four-man bullpen. Logan Ondrusek, Jose Arredondo and Carlos Fisher were not available.
“That puts you in a bad situation,” Baker said. “I was counting it up. We didn’t have enough to fill nine innings.”
I have to question his math if that's the case.
He's punting the season punting games like tonight's.
Besides, if Baker was actually hoping Reineke would strike out, why didn't he just make him take the 3-2 pitch (like several posters suggested)?

Dusty is beyond stupid. Does he even realize he is the manager? A lot of times I am not sure that he does. If he wanted a strike out all he had to was give the take sign. Simple. Yet, too complicated for Baker.
And his counting skills could use some brushing up on. Reineke pitched four. You use Horst for three (He used him 2 2/3 anyway). You have Masset, Bray and Cordero for the 8th and 9th. Once again, simple.
That was the Reds chance to get back into the game. Even The Dusty One admits as much. And yet there he was standing in the dugout, chewing his toothpick, hoping instead of managing and counting on his fingers.
Kudos, Johnny Baker, kudos.
Re: If we miss the playoffs by one game..
Its frustrating to watch. Thats for sure. His excuses/reasons are just sooo weak, I almost wish he would just stop talking to the media afterwards, then i would only hate him and not despise the ground upon which his toothpick sucking butt walks.
Re: If we miss the playoffs by one game..
:lol:We aren't coming anywhere CLOSE to the playoffs this year, so this conversation makes no sense what so ever.
We are the same as the Bengals, its not possible for us to put good back to back seasons together. Man do I ever hate Jocketty and Duhsty.

I understand Dusty's thinking. I was hoping to win the Mega Millions too. So I completely understand this "hoping" thing. :p

A gold glove infield and outfield, one of the best offenses, and improving pitching. Which part of this formula makes you think we will come no where close to the playoffs?

I think pitching is a pretty big question mark right now. The offense is fine, the defense is fine. Pitching is the problem. Hopefully everyone can right his own ship, but man is it ugly right now, especially with Bailey going back on the DL. That was a killer.

Fine isn't exactly the best describing word. The pitching is "fine". Everything else is outstanding. The pitching will improve in time, we have the talent.

Can't really say that when you're 3rd to last in the NL in ERA, that pitching is fine.
It should improve but I'd anticipate improving to league average rather than above average.

Just to clarify, do you think the Reds will have league average pitching at the end of the season? Or do you think by the end of the season the Reds ERA will be league average which means they will be getting better than league average pitching in order to lower their present ERA to that point?
