I believe this was the game in which the book,The Machine, gave credit as the turnaround game of the 1975 season. The Reds came into this game playing very poorly. Their record was only 19-19 and were 5.5 games behind the Dodgers. IIRC, the night before Marty B. and Bench were out carousing most of the night. Bench came in the next day saying he couldn't play because he was sick. Marty spilled the beans as he mentioned something to Sparky about he and Bench being out the night before. Sparky went ballistic on the whole team. Bench played and hit the game winning HR and the 75 team took off from there. Also I believe this was game Morgan played with a bunch of stitches in his foot or leg from being spiked the day before. He could have esily sat out but didn't. The author of the book seemed think this set the tone for them for the next couple of seasons. Also it seems like I remember watching this game on TV. One of the few that the Reds TV network carried back then.
