Sorry but I don't subscribe to the number of pitches being the litmus test for whether plate appearances are quality. Heisey had a good pitch to hit and gave it a ride.
Votto is as patient a hitter as you'll find, so when he swings early, it's probably for a very good reason.

Heisey nearly drove one out of the park. Wasn't the worst decision there.
Re: Reds vs. Pirates 7/21/2013
I probably wouldn't be sending Homer out there here in the 7th, but I hope I'm wrong.
Re: Reds vs. Pirates 7/21/2013
Giving Locke a seven pitch inning isn't a formula to driving him out of the game and getting into that bullpen. Especially considering the inning he had in the fifth.

Heisey almost hacked one out. I get the frustration with a 7 pitch inning but if you get something you can drive get after it.

Wow. 12 strikeouts now for Bailey.

Given the context, I think patience was what the doctor ordered that inning.

The primary goal is still to get a pitch to drive and drive it. Heisey did that. Votto should be above question in that area.

McKenry looks like a fire hydrant.

Never send a padre in to do a madre's job. 3-1 Louie in the bottom of the third.

McKenry is the new Bill Hall.
Re: Reds vs. Pirates 7/21/2013
McKenry doubles to the wall in center after a lonnnng at-bat.
Re: Reds vs. Pirates 7/21/2013
McKenry doubles, flashes a gang sign
Re: Reds vs. Pirates 7/21/2013
I'd still stick with Homer here for at least another batter.
