Definitely.
He's a thinking fan with actual Ballplayer's Skills. He's a more polite Ted Williams, a more reserved Tony Gwynn.
We are truly lucky to watch him ply his trade in our team's Red and Whites.

Random internet speculation suggests Billy Hamilton bobblehead night helps Joey Votto see better pitches and get excited for fastballs. Quantifiably true
Votto is on live again with McAlister.

These appearances with Lance have been entirely awesome. Really grateful to Votto for opening up and letting some of his personality and views through. Very refreshing. Really easy to root for that guy.
Has anyone ever asked Votto if he thinks his teammates should swing less? Whatever your personal opinion, it's clear he values a walk a lot. Enough so that he swings less than almost anybody even though he's the most efficient hitter on the team when he does swing. So, it stands to reason that MAYBE the less efficient swingers on the team (especially the ones who see a comparable amount of balls) should be swinging less also. I don't know, I'm just curious.
Is it correct to say he "values a walk a lot" as opposed to looking to not make an out? I know it appears that I'm disinclined to be a sabermetric guy, but I think there's an important distinction there, isn't there. It's not that he loves walks, it's that he believes his job is to not make an out.
Exactly...if you're a batter the #1 most important thing is not getting out.
By far -- not even close -- the best thing about this off-season has been Votto's interviews.
Extremely rare for a major pro athlete to give such in-depth, candid interviews to the public.
Not quite finished listening, but these are a must for any Reds fan.
Votto is embracing his role as public face of the franchise -- just in a different and more cerebral way than most of us would have expected.
Agreed. I know they're not going to continue once spring training starts (since he made it clear he likes to live alone/be alone during those 6 weeks, and sorta train like Rocky), but man I wish they would.
Also, in-depth and candid are the best words to describe his joke about the Reds media guide...
Votto is a better, more articulate analyst than just about any other player I've seen/heard. It's going to be really interesting to see what he does with himself after his playing days are over.
