Real trivia
On May 12th, 1996 Chris Stynes stole 2nd, stole 3rd, and then stole home!! He also had another SB in the same game and he only stole 5 bases that season. Ken Griffey, Jr. was playing CF for the opposing team. I find this all very strange... :explode:

BTW The Royals lost, all those steals couldn't make up for the 2 HR's ARod had. |
Re: Real trivia
But the Royals lost playing the game the right way :D

Re: Real trivia
It has come from on high that HR's are over rated.
We must forsake any temptation of avoiding outs and scoring runs quickly, in order to do "the little things" We Must Play The Game The Right Way. :bang:  :bang: :bang: :bang: |
Re: Real trivia
The '96 Royals were a poor hitting team that produced a total of 123 HR's that year. By contrast, the M's that year hit twice as many HR's with 245 HR's. Additionally, Randy Johnson was the starter who K'd 7 and allowed 1 run in 5 innings pitched.
For the Royals that day, the starter was Doug Linton who had a wonderful ERA of 5.02 that year and managed to give up 4 runs in 4.2 IP. Linton was followed by the always memorable Mike Magnante (5.67 ERA) and Hipolito Pichardo (5.43 ERA). The thread started out not as a discourse on 'small-ball' but as an obscure stat that Chris Steins stole 4 out of his 5 season's SB's on the same day and that one of the SB's was Home Plate. One of those odd things that happens in baseball. To devine that the Royals should try to stand toe-to-toe and slug it out with the big boys is laughable but I understand that it makes some of you feel good to make fun of "the little things". The Royals lost that day because Seattle was a better team that could hit HRs while KC was a team that could not hit HRs and was facing better pitching. In that situation you do whatever you can do to try to win. Rem |
