Why do they say a player has options when the player has no choice?

Splitting lefties makes my head hurt, especially on a team that is loaded with leftie power (JR,Dunn,Lopez)

Actually, it's becasue LH hitters generally struggle more against LH pitchers than RH hitters do against RH pitchers.
