I think that the Reds possibly could have been able to net a really good pitching prospect or two (Matt Garza, Glen Perkins, Boof Bonser, Scott Baker, etc.) and Juan Rincon/Jesse Crain along with Matt Guerrier for the Kearns/Lopez combo after the Hunter/Stewart injuries. Looks like Krivsky could have moved too fast on this one. As far as what I have heard however, Terry Ryan would have likely tried to include Kyle Lohse in any deal instead of a good prospect. But you'd definitely think the Twins would have had lots of interest especially in Kearns right about now. Lopez likely would have to play third however, because the Twins seem satisfied with the SS/2B combo of Bartlett/Castillo. They have Nick Punto playing 3rd usually but surely would prefer to use him in a utility positon ala Ryan Freel.

These two injuries come just two days after the Twins had to place reserve outfielder Lew Ford on the DL with a strained right oblique muscle. With Jason Kubel not really an option in left field due to lingering soreness in both knees, the Twins' outfield choices are very limited.

Twins purchased the contract of outfielder Josh Rabe from Triple-A Rochester.
Sadly, the 27-year-old Rabe was the best alternative the Twins had at Triple-A. After a fast start, he had faded to .297/.364/.399 with six steals in 10 attempts. However, there's no one on Rochester's roster with even an 800 OPS.
