Sam Lecure - while we weren't looking...
Sam has had an impressive string of starts since july 8th. he has gone at least five innings in each start (not bad with a pitch count). in five of the seven starts he has given up no runs (earned or otherwise). twice in this seven game stretch he has given up just one hit in six innings. all told in 39 IP he has given up just 5 ER (1.15 ERA). he has given up 22 hits and walked 18 (1.03 WHIP). :)

Is he at Dayton or Sarasota? I haven't kept up.

Hey now...I was looking. Lecures K/9 has dropped every month of the season. He has it back up this month, but its still just 6.75. What I do like is since July began he has allowed just 22 hits in 39 innings. Bad thing is, 18 walks and just 26 strikouts.
I like what Lecure brings, but being that he is playing in Sarasota, there is nearly no coverage and there is no video available to watch him pitch. It will be interesting to see what he does next year in Chattanooga. |
Re: Sam Lecure - while we weren't looking...
The S-Reds allow a ton of unearned runs, although there are only nine on Lecure's record. So his RA/9 is 3.75, still pretty darn good. He'll get promoted, I think.

He was my pick to make it to the bigs first from that class.

Re: Sam Lecure - while we weren't looking...
His 7.35 K/9 isn't wonderful for a college player, and his walk rates are a little higher than I expected, but he's still putting together a nice debut season. It'll be interesting to see how he holds up at AA. If we can get a solid #4 out of this guy by '08, I'll be happy.

Re: Sam Lecure - while we weren't looking...
Ok you have Bailey who strikes out alot of bats but isn't ready because he throws to many pitches and that is what most strike out pitchers do. No you have Lecure gets players to put the ball in play to keep his pitch count down and gets knocked because he doesn't strike out alot of players. Seems like your damned if you do and damned if you don't.

I usually like to give 2 years for a pitcher to prove themselves, Lecure is no different.
Right now, he is looks like Justin Germano Jr., but next year, he may be looking like something better. Bailey will be ready when his breaking pitch is as reliable as his fastball. That would give him 2 pitches, which with his arm, is enough while he hones that changeup. |
