Egg on your face trades
"The Trade" certinally prompted strong reactions. SS being acquired has prompted some to begin questioning whether Kriv is competent and should be our GM. Some even bashed the WMP for BA trade and predicted doom and gloom, especially in concert with acquiring Hatteburg.
What trade/player move were you adament was going to be a huge flop and set the franchise back 100 years only to be proven wrong? OR What trade/player move did you think was going to rocket the Reds to 10 straight world series championships only to end up being a complete bust? We've all been wrong about player moves before. Although the numbers said it was a horrible move, the history said it was a horrible move and your gut said it was a horrible move it somehow worked out for the best. Which moves have left you with egg on your face? PS: This is meant to be a thread where we laugh at ourselves and our mistakes for our own enjoyment. It will require you to admit you were wrong about something. Good luck and God Speed. ;) |
Re: Egg on your face trades
I can't remember a trade that I thought wasn't going to work out and I was surprised it did. I must say I'm surprised at how much the WMP-Arroyo trade has benefitted us.

Re: Egg on your face trades
Not a trade, but a free agent siging.
I thought Rick Mahler was leading this team to the promised land. oops. |
Re: Egg on your face trades
Well I'm kind of optimistic so my mistakes are usually the other way. Like getting Jr., at the time I thought getting him meant that the Reds were going to be contenders for years to come. And most of my friends are Cubs' fans, so I talked a lot of trash and obviously I've gotten a lot back. I still like Jr. though and hopefully he can help carry us the rest of the way this year.

So far the Loshe trade has looked good while I thought Krivs had lost his mind. The Arroyo trade also didn't appeal to me but I appear to be wrong on it as well. Trades that I was right about....Oh well that is for another thread.

Re: Egg on your face trades
I loved the Griffey trade.
I also wasn't against the O'Neill - Kelly trade. The Reds were platooning O'Neill, and he wasn't really hitting lefties well when he did play against them. He really took off late in his career, though. Didn't see that one coming. |

And actually, looking at Bichette in his time here, he wasn't awful, but I think he gave us all a good lesson in "Coors Field." |
Re: Egg on your face trades
I thought Ryan Dempster was the young ace the Reds needed to anchor the rotation for years to come.

Re: Egg on your face trades
That first game Randy Keisler played in I think he pitched lights out, had a key hit (maybe a homer) and maybe even made some razle-dazle defensive play. I remember one head-line being "Randy is Dandy" the next day.
I didn't really know much about the guy so I instantly formed the opionion that he was a savior for the Reds and would be around for a while. |
