Thursday playoff thread (NLCS game 1)

Cardinals at the Mets are playing in game 1 tonight.

From the mind of Dave Duncan.

If the Cards win tonight, they'll sweep the series.

Weaver should have a perfect game going with the strikezone he is getting tonight.

Re: Thursday playoff thread (NLCS game 1)

My notes so far:

- David Eckstein has the ugliest batting stance in baseball. It doesn't help that Pujols and his beautiful stance charges up right after him for comparison.

- Having heard Tim McCarver through just a small handful of these teams' games over the last several days, I think I've now heard everything he has to say.

- Fox has made some excellent and fun music choices tonight. I've heard the Strokes, Dee-Lite, and Culture Club (for the Web MD report), among others. Of course, the last was almost ruined by the jabbering of one Tim McCarver (I really don't mind him as much as some others do. But sheesh.)

That's all.

Beltran homers. 2-0 Mets.

Man! Did Beltran ever homer! What a shot!

2-0 Mets in the bottom of the 8th. Mets have runners on 2nd and 3rd with one out and David Wright up, and they failed to score. Geesh. Let's see if that comes back to bite them in the arse.

Mets win game one, 2-0!

Pujols up in the ninth -- I really thought he was going to be a spoiler again. I can't even fathom what kind of terror he puts into pitchers.

A Hall-of-Famer started for the Mets and one closed for them too. That's not too shabby.

Yeah, he'll need to maintain his current level of performance for at least another 5 years. And probably, he'll have to secure a ring for a team in the process.

He's already had a better career than every reliever in the HOF except for maybe Eck (only because he was a starter too) and Hoyt Wilhelm (because of his crazy longevity). Best K/9 in history. He's got 10 years of pure devastation on his resume. He really shouldn't need more than that. Though he'll climb to 5th on the career saves list in two years and he's on track for 1,000 IP in four. He and Mo Rivera have the two lowest ERAs any pitcher has posted since the Deadball Era.
