Reggie Sanders tears hamstring

Given the potential severity of this injury, his age and diminished playing time, I wonder if we've seen the last of Reggie. Had a fairly distinguished career, all things considered.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Royals outfielder Reggie Sanders has a torn left hamstring and will be put on the 15-day disabled list Friday.

The 39-year-old was injured running the bases against the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday. He had been platooning and his role figured to be diminished when rookie outfielder Billy Butler was called up from Triple-A Omaha.

Kansas City was expected to fill Sanders' spot by recalling outfielder Shane Costa from Omaha. On Thursday, Costa extended his hitting streak at Triple-A to 19 games.
