I'd agree here. While Ashville is not my kind of town, you really would get a nice contrast with the beautiful mountain setting and modern hippie culture. Plenty of great bars and a unique people with just a touch of southern to it. Bring your patchouli and crafts though.
Nashville is a hole IMHO and, yes, I have spent a good ammount of time there.

Are you joking?? There are over 1,300 pickers alone that are looking for recording contracts! There's gotta be 50K guitar players here. :)

I was referring to the Lovin' Spoonful song. Your are in Nashville- please tell me you got that. :)
Re: Out of country visitors
I'm in Nashville but I don't know many Lovin Spoonful songs. I'll admit my deficiency and that I didn't get it. Sorry. What tune is that from?

Nashville Cats, play clean as country water

Nashville Cats, been playin' since they's babies
Nashville Cats, get work before they're two
Well, there's thirteen hundred and fifty two
Guitar pickers in Nashville
And they can pick more notes than the number of ants
On a Tennessee anthill
Yeah, there's thirteen hundred and fifty two
Guitar cases in Nashville
And any one that unpacks his guitar could play
Twice as better than I will
Yeah, I was just thirteen, you might say I was a

When I heard a couple new-sounding tunes on the tubes
And they blasted me sky-high
And the record man said every one is a yellow Sun
Record from Nashville
And up north there ain't nobody buys them
And I said, but I will
And it was

Well, there's sixteen thousand eight hundred twenty one
Mothers from Nashville
All their friends play music, and they ain't uptight
If one of the kids will
Because it's custom made for any mother's son
To be a guitar picker in Nashville
And I sure am glad I got a chance to say a word about
The music and the mothers from Nashville

Re: Out of country visitors
I've lived in Asheville and Chicago, and I would recommend both of them. Asheville is where I want to retire (if things don't work out in Germany), but Chicago is the place I'd want to bring people from out of town. New York City (where I'll be this weekend) is a completely different experience, and I recommend anyone do it at least once, regardless of any other cities he or she has visited.
