Flip Encarnacion with Phillips and
Ross with Gonzalez and you've got my favorite lineup.

Pete is doing the unthinkable...hitting 3 lefties in a row.

That's unpossible!

I like to see Josh hitting leadoff. Gives him more at bats and I think he needs those for the future.

Looks like they have one lefty in the pen.

I am liking the cut of Mackanin's gib. I really am. Heeding OBP. Not being freaked out by the concept of putting his best hitters together, even if they bat left-handed, funny and informative in his press availabilities.

All pretty good stuff.

Good for him.

Obviously, he has ever read "The Book".

Tidbit

Mackanin said he'd like to try to get Valentin about three starts a week behind the plate. Javy said his defense and confidence was hurt when Jerry Narron said he wasn't going to use him much as a catcher. He said now he feels like he's back at spring training. He was out before the game working and has been doing extra workouts before the game since Monday.

That was one thing Jerry had right, Val is not a catcher

Why?

Phillips is better than EE and Gonzalez is better than Ross.

Better hitters should get more AB's.

I disagree with the first part of the assessment. EdE's OBP is 40 pts higher than BPs -this year- and despite the bad start. EdE works counts better than Phillips and is less likely to give the pitcher an easy out.
Furthermore, with Griff behind him, he's like to see better pitches and probably would increase his power numbers.
BP is such a free swinger, I don't think he requires as much "protection".
As for speed, Encarnación is plenty fast if given the chance.

As for Gonzalez and Ross, the 8 position is a tough one to hit in.
So if you're going to choose between two bad hitters, I take the one that who handles pitches outside the zone better and put him in the 8 spot.
That's Gonzalez

In addition, it's nice to have a guy in the 8 slot who can actually score on a single from second (after the pitcher bunts him over). Gonzalez again.

Third, your main pinch hitter is a catcher (for better or worse). It's nice to put SOME space between your regular catcher and the pitcher, for those wonderful double switches.

Just my .05
