Cincinnati Post to close

By the end of the year. I wonder what will happen to C. Trent?

I hope he lands on his feet somewhere. Maybe this explains why Marc left so quickly.

This has been known for several years.

The lifespan of most of the afternoon papers around the country is fastly waning.

"Stop the presses! No, seriously. Stop them."

Yes, their agreement with the Enquirer was coming to an end. And I guess there was no alternative to be found.

It's interesting, because Cincinnati is the headquarters for Scripps. They have a nice building down by GABP.

I thought Scripps is in Nashville

From C. Trent.

Quote:

ATHENS, Ga. -- Got a call from esteemed editor Keith Herrell this morning about the news that was coming out -- The Post is closing Dec. 31. Honeslty, this was as surprsing as telling me there's no Santa Claus.

I knew it was coming when I took the job three years ago and when I decided to stay and take the Reds beat. It was a gamble, but it's one I wanted to take and I have no regrets. I'll be fine, I hope.

Thanks for the emails. We'll figure it out. It's a much sadder day for Cincinnati than it is me. I'll be here the rest of the season, so you can't get rid of me that easily.

Nope Cincinnati, but they have no paper presses anywhere nearby.

This is really sad news but not surprising, the Enquirer may have some great people working for them but all in all they are pretty unreadable

Maybe RedsZone should make an offer.

I honestly don't know how newspapers stay in business. Especially with nearly everyone having internet access. I know I rarely buy a newspaper. I get all my information from the internet or TV.

Good luck to Trent. He does a fine blog and I 'm sure someone will snap him up shortly.

Man, I had no idea the Post's subscriber base had dwindled THAT far. Wow.

The days of traditional print newpapers and beat writers are coming to close, they are dinosaurs that haven't figured out they are already dead.

C Trent will be missed, hopefully he can find a way to cover the Reds in a different format.

Doesn't help when your competitor handles your promotion ;)

Classified ads, which used to be a major revenue stream, are pretty much dead meat. It's really too bad, because all that's left in town now is the evil Gannett empire.
