No surprises for both players - they were both my picks.
I am a little disappointed to see Hamilton was not named - too bad his injury bugs bit so hard. |
Re: Pedroia & Braun win ROY awards
Delmon Young getting 1st place votes is kind of goofy. Jeremy Guthrie not getting any votes at all is, too. RBI and wins strike again.

Re: Pedroia & Braun win ROY awards
Anyone think Tulo was a victim of coastal bias?

Re: Pedroia & Braun win ROY awards
I thought Tulowitski should have gotten the NL honor. After all, he actually plays defense. It would be like saying Sabo was better than Larkin on the 1990 Reds team. Well, what can I expect now that even Gold Gloves seem to be given on offensive performance.

Re: Pedroia & Braun win ROY awards
I just mean Tulo is out west, his games are played after a large number of voters are asleep. Couple that with Brauns power numbers....
If I'm starting a team and I can choose either of those two to start the team with, I'm taking Tulo 100 out of 100 times. He's the better player IMO. |

I'd seen Braun numerous times and was impressed by his stick. I didn't realize his glove was so lousy though. I hadn't seen Tulowitzki play at any length till the playoffs. I came away thinking he's a heckuva player and IMO should have won the award. I don't recall the Rockies being on any ESPN or Fox games. And the few games the Reds played against them, Tulowitzki didn't make any impression on this admittedly very spotty sample sized fan. |

Good choices, unlike the gold gloves

Re: Pedroia & Braun win ROY awards
While I'm sympathetic to the argument that a quality all-around SS is about the finest thing you can have in the game of baseball, I still would have voted for Braun.
He's cut from the Albert Pujols, Miguel Cabrera mold. Is he going to have a long term future at 3B? Probably not, but his bat terrorized opposing pitchers from the moment he stepped into the league until the last day of the season. He was a wrecking ball. Tulowitzki had a fine debut. He's a very Jim Fregosi type of player, but I'd have voted to hand the hardware to the scary hitter. |
Re: Pedroia & Braun win ROY awards
Tulo got jobbed. He was the better player this year.

Re: Pedroia & Braun win ROY awards
I'd rather have Tulo, but I don't know that he was "jobbed."
