This might be blasphemy, but I was just wondering...

...seeing what packages are being bandied about for Santana, Haren, and even Willis, what would Harang and Arroyo bring if they were made available?

(note: I'm in NO WAY advocating their trade, but it is something WK should at least explore, given the current market for good starters.)

No, he shouldn't. The Reds cannot afford to lose the only ace they've had in 25 years. Unlike the A's and the O's, the Reds are close to contending at least for their division. Harang is signed to a ridiculously cheap contract through 2011. You don't trade him, no matter what.

If we hadn't invested heavily in a closer it might make sense to tear down and rebuild but clearly the Reds are in win now mode. That being said, I think Harang could demand a package of MLB ready prospects similar to that of Haren.

The time to trade Arroyo was last off season.

But I think that sets the Reds back. If any indication the Reds are looking to "Win Now." The Reds are weak in pitching and pretty solid elsewhere with catcher position probably being the weakest. I could see them getting two pitching prospects (Not Bailey, Chamberlain, Hughes, or Linchcolm status) perhaps for Harang. The Dodgers look like they will deal both Matt Kemp and Johnathan Broxton to Baltimore for Bedard. I'd think Harang could get you Kershaw or Meloan and a mid-level pitching prospect.

As far as Arroyo.. I don't know what he would net.. perhaps they revisit a Braves trade that would of netted us Reyes and Escobar..

Either or I think you hang on to these guys. Without them you're just rebuilding..

Harang would bring you as much (or more) than what Haren would bring you.

Shopping Arroyo would make a lot of sense, though (as noted earlier) last year would have made more sense as he was cheaper.

Harang is a legit front of the rotation guy. Leave him be.

More outfielders?

If we add a Top three starter and a decnet bakc of the rotation starter, then one of the young guys really step up, I would be willing to deal Bronson at the deadline this year if they get a younger starter in return.

I think the key to most veteran LTCs is to get a year or two of production from them and then deal them while there is a year or two elft on the deal. Tha'ts the biggest problem I have with Cordero's deal and AD's last extension. I might let them have a limited no-tade, (name 10 teams or so the would or would not go to), but not the full no-trade.

I'm more willing to stick with Aaron til the end of his deal, but I'm more hesitant about Bronson. If I get the right guy, I deal him mid-contract.

That's an interesting idea, I asked the same question about Homer Bailey about a year ago before he came up to the majors. Of course it wasn't well received by most but in hindsight he hasn't done too well in the majors yet. Getting back on topic if you could get a couple young cheap Scott Kazmir or Chase Utley type players with little or no major league experience I'd do it in a heartbeat.
