Some of the crap I've been reading about Homer Bailey on this board is absolutely sickening. You GO HOMER. |
Re: Homer Bailey Appreciation Thread
Hello...my name is Ed. And I am a Homer Bailey fan.
Good idea for a thread WMR...the Homer hating is reaching unprecedented levels. Unless he has a drug problem, is on the cusp of pulling a Greinke or he is a lock for a major injury, I hope he isn't being shopped. Especially for Blanton. |
Re: Homer Bailey Appreciation Thread
I'm not as sold on Bailey as doug.
But I wouldn't trade him for two Blanton's. |

Homer Bailey beats kittens.
But seriously, I can't believe the beating Homer Bailey takes on this board. It's amazing that people are ready to give up on him after only nine major league starts - at age 21! |

Anyway put me down as a believer. Assuming he stays healthy I think he'll have a very productive career. |
Re: Homer Bailey Appreciation Thread
Count me in as a big Homer Bailey fan. I've done more than my fair share of defending the kid since A ball.. heck, perhaps since draft day. heh.

Re: Homer Bailey Appreciation Thread
jojo made a good point that Homer Bailey gets more interesting with every year that passes without an arm injury.
I've always thought the kid is talented if enormously overrated. I actually think he might become more interesting dependent on how he comes through a couple of tough years. He's in the midst of what tend to be trying times for young pitchers. Do I believe in Homer Bailey? Well, I'm sure he exists. We'll get to find out how successful a pitcher he can in the coming years. |
Re: Homer Bailey Appreciation Thread
He's progressed exceptionally far to be held up by what you are talking about now, M2.

I'm thrilled he saw the bigs injury-free -- that is about as big a moral victory as you can have. I don't think it's "hating" on Homer to demand better performance than a +5 BB/9 and a sub-6 K/9 from your top pitching prospect. He was average at AAA in 2007 and outright sucked in the bigs; any talk of groin injuries is merely mitigation of that fact. Homer has a lot to prove in 2008. I don't doubt the talent is there (they don't just hand out slots on the Top-10 list at BA), and I never expected the ride to be smooth, but the kid needs to show improvement in key areas for me to continue being optimistic about his future as a contributing member of the Reds. One thing I think nobody would disagree with: the team did him zero favors by exposing him to the majors before he was ready. |
