Re: 100 Greatest Movie Characters
They did a fair job of picking out characters, but the order is way out of whack, IMO.
Gollum #13?? He should be much lower.
Daniel Plainview and Hans Gruber??? Maybe in the top 1,000, but not the top 100.
Where's Rooster Cogburn, Jeff Spicoli, Mad Max, Mickey Mouse, Lt. Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell, Carl Spackler, John J. Rambo, Roy Hobbs?
I mean, come on...Wall-E is the number one animated character? I can only think of about 50 others I'd rank before him... Mickey, Goofy, Donald, Ariel, Peter Pan, Shrek, Simba, Cinderella, Pongo, Purdy, Woody, Belle, Beast, Sully, Mike Wazowski and on, and on.
IMO #1 is James Bond. He's recognized around the world, outlives the actors portraying him, and has been copied (and even parodied) by others on this very list. He should win by sheer number of movie appearances.
Tyler Durden? He wouldn't even be my pick for best Brad Pitt character...that'd go to Tristan Ludlow. I'll admit Durden belongs on the list, but not in the top 10.
and where's Frankenstein and the Mummy? Jigsaw makes #30 but Dracula is #87? I think this list was made by my 18-year old daughter.
It did, however, stimulate a lot of thought and discussion.
