Movies the Critics Loved But You Hated
Gosford Park- I pray for each minute back spent watching this boring, awful...just...ordinary piece of garbage disguised as cinema. A great cast is still boring watch in a boring movie.
Mulholland Drive- Yeah, weird can be stylish and it's fun to tease the audience with "what the heck?" moments, but this one left me not caring.
Lost In Translation- Yawn. Waited for something to happen. When a reviewer tells you a movie is "...a testament to the power of a raised eyebrow, a gentle touch and a parting whisper," you know you're in for some nap time.
Any for you guys?

I never cared that much for Citizen Kane.

I think it has aged poorly, but I guess that's to be expected for a movie that was visually powerful that long ago.
My trouble with the old movies is the soundtrack- those screaming strings are pretty annoying after 2 hours.

This movie has been one of the few times I actually agreed with the critics, thought it was great flick. I can understand why some would hate it though.
At the top of my list would be Titanic, hands down. Every I hear that song, I want to vomit.

Didn't see Gosford Park but loved the other two. I'm with Billy Wilder -- don't bore people. And I wasn't bored by either of those.
I generally avoid the Oscar/boring genre -- Out of Africa, The English Patient, The Hours, Chariots of Fire, etc....

Wow. All three of those are three of my all-time favorite movies. I doubt I can add much to this thread.

The Graduate. I'm sure it was risque and interesting when it first came out, but now? Snoozeville.

You must be a movie critic! Get him! ;)
Re: Movies the Critics Loved But You Hated
I agree with those who liked Lost in Translation. I thought it was a quirky movie, but I liked Murray's performance. My wife, on the other hand, didn't like it at all.
Some years ago, we recommended to friends that they watch Hitchcock's Rear Window, one of our favorites. They detested it.

It's a big screen movie, if you've only seen it on TV then you haven't seen it.
As for critics, most of them rot from my experience, I judge em myself.
Re: Movies the Critics Loved But You Hated
I like goofy comedies, old school horror films & old school action films. Critics hate almost all of these.
Critics like dramas, especially artsy farsty lefty junk. I hate almost all of these.
Re: Movies the Critics Loved But You Hated
I love artsy, fartsy, lefty films, I hate TV to film remakes and explosions and special effects at the expense of a story.
Re: Movies the Critics Loved But You Hated
The Departed. A derivative (though extremely well made) snorefest.
Re: Movies the Critics Loved But You Hated
Scarface.
And Al Pacino in general.

Love Al Pacino, hated Scarface.
To those of you who liked Gosford Park: I'll paint some cardboard white and you can come over and watch it dry LOL....
