Nice writeup on Griffey Sr. and Bakersfield.

What in the world is Ken Griffey Sr., at 61, doing as a rookie manager for a Cincinnati Reds' Class A affiliate in one of the quirkiest ballparks in the country, thousands of miles from his Florida home?

"Well, the thing is, I enjoy working with the kids," Griffey says.

"I'd like to manage at the big-league level," Griffey says. "I'm not going to do this not to see if I can do it in the big leagues."

"I'm giving myself until I'm 65," he says, cheerfully. "I'm 61 now. Then I'll go on home."
I hope Senior gets a chance to manage a big-league club. It would be a lot different than working at Bakersfield, that's for sure.
