A big bat at 3B is not a necessity. The Reds will have above-average production out of 2B and C, most likely, so they can sacrifice offense in favor of defense at other spots. Plus, Cozart is looking like a very solid, if not a SLG-centric, offensive player. Gregorius may end up having a similar profile.Quote:
Unless he keeps hitting at the pace he started this season (very unlikely), Cozart doesn't provide much upside as a 3B. Imagine subbing in a light-hitting Hamilton for Rolen in this already weak offensive lineup. Is it any better?
Has anybody seen Hamilton this year to see if he changed physically from last year?
He's at the age where most males put on 15 to 20 lbs of muscle regardless of build. I was hoping he would add some muscle.
Leave him at SS for now. I think a player can transition anywhere except catcher from SS and not be too pressed to make the change. Let's see what his infield skills develop like - Hamilton at 2nd, Cozart at SS and Phillips at third down the road doesn't seem egregious thinking to me - or - move him later. Once you put him in the OF though I think you've cast the die. It's a lot tougher to return to the infield then, especially when you aren't a defensive natural.
