Beau Mills

According to Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the Reds traded cash considerations to the Indians for former first round pick Beau Mills and assigned him to Pensacola.

1B - son of Brad Mills. Hit well his first couple of seasons, but his numbers have steadily dropped with each step he's taken up the Indians' organizational ladder. A little pop for the Wahoos lineup, but not sure he's a prospect. Is a lefty with some pop though.

From the Indians MLB feed.

Any chance he could be tried in Left Field down in Pensacola?

Here's an extensive piece (already updated with the trade) from Baseball-Reference.com

It mentions a shoulder injury several years ago.

Re: Beau Mills

I like it- seems like a no-risk, high-reward type move. Plus we have a good history of those with Cleveland.

He OPS'd .860 between AA and AAA as a 24 year old last year.

He's off to a slow start this year, but he seems like at a minimum he could challenge Neftali Soto for the best 1B prospect in the system and future Reds pinch-hitter. He's played some 3B in HS and College so I wonder if we'll try him there or maybe in LF.

He was drafted two spots ahead of Mesoraco and one ahead of Heyward in the 2007 first round.

Re: Beau Mills

The Indians gave up on him at 3B because of the shoulder injury. Not sure if that is something that still keeps him off of the position though. Like Benihana said, very little risk and a high reward if he can put things together with above-average power.

More LH bats needed, so good.

Brandon Phillips Pt. II?

Re: Beau Mills

I'd try him at 3B just to see what he has. Though, to be fair, the Red system has three pretty good prospects at the hot corner.

At 1B, he'll need to slug like a monster.

Looks like organizational depth only, at this point.

I'd try him in LF before 3B, where he's trapped behind Frazier, Rodriguez and Vidal on the depth chart.

That's what I'm thinking. It makes me wonder if that might be why they've moved him down to Pensacola to give him the ability to go in that direction. A guy who can play both infield corners and LF would be a good bench addition in the next few years. Isn't it also possible that our scouts have seen something that they think they can better develop?

I see where you're going with that... but its more like Mike Costazo part 2.

Re: Beau Mills

So what do you guys make of Beau so far? His line looks nice, particularly the power, but of course he's already played part of 3 years in AA. Can he still be considered any sort of prospect at 26, or is he just organizational depth?
