Future Farm
After the dealings this past winter, I was afraid that it would take two or maybe three years to recover. 've been kind of struck this year about how much talent there seems to be in the farm system (especially in the lower levels.
I know there will be the normal attrition: 6ht year FAs, some guys dealt, some guys going to the Reds, some being released and I know there will be addition through signings trades and waiver pickups for AAAA and filler types. I think there's a good chance that the Reds could fill most of their levels Louisville to Billings with guys originally drafted by the Reds (I realize a few listed are from deals or waiver pickups). I didn't include anyone that may come over from the DSL or as of yet unsigned 2012 draft picks. Re: Future Farm
Why would you have Hoover starting when all he's done this year is relieve while Pedro Villarreal has held his own in Louisville?

Assuming none of the free-agents-to-be are resigned, this is about how I see it shaking out next year:
Code:
Cincinnati Louisville Pensacola Bakersfield Dayton |
Re: Future Farm
Cingrani back in AA to start 2013? No chance if he continues to pitch like he has in AA so far-- 2/3 as many hits as IP with a K rate over 11.5 and a 2.15 ERA will move him up. (The new-found confidence he apparently has in his slider should also pay dividends.)
Louisville's rotation will be stacked, assuming no deals: Corcino Cingrani Lotzkar Sulburan Villareal Upside, upside, upside. |

Re: Future Farm
Cingrani's secondary stuff plays up because his fastball has good movement. He doesn't need a great slider, just an average one. It does him no good to dominate AA with two pitches-- he needs to go to Louisville and pitch against those AAAA guys that can mash a fastball with movement to see how he stacks up.
The innings he can get in both Pennsacola and Louisville. |
Re: Future Farm
I was just thinking it'd be nice if he faced some of the hitters multiple times. There's no need to rush him.

Re: Future Farm
Is the guy you've got listed as Aldi Guzman the same as Argenis Aldazoro? I know they changed his name on the roster a couple of times. Kinda confusing. Or is Guzman injured?

My comments: 1. I think Cingrani has the whole second half of this season to continue to hone his craft and work on secondary stuff in AA. I think he begins 2013 in AAA along with the rest of the stacked rotation Scrap cited. 2. I think LaMarre would get a look at a backup spot in Cincy before Phipps, but I'm not sure if either starts 2013 with the big club. 3. Lutz has got to stay in LF if he has a future in this organization. I'd like to see him playing there in Pensacola right now, but definitely in 2013 (over someone like Perez). 4. I think Amaral plays CF in Dayton next year, with Winker in RF and someone else in LF. I think Gelalich goes to Bakersfield to play RF (I think he plays out this season in Dayton), with some combination of Yorman/Bowe in CF next year in Bakersfield. 5. Obviously a hotly debated topic, but don't be surprised to see Hamilton in CF next year- especially if it's being occupied by a non-prospect like Bryson Smith. He may move, he may not- but don't be surprised either way. 6. Where are Seth Mejias-Brean and Gabe Rosa? Have to think Rosa is starting in Dayton next year, either at 3B or in the OF (if Rahier gets bumped to Dayton) 7. I think Felt will spend another year in rookie ball. As I mentioned on another thread, I think Travieso could make the jump to Dayton but all the other HS pitchers likely spend another year in Rookie League. 8. I wonder if Duran repeats Bakersfield for another year, next to his fellow international signee enigma Yorman Rodriguez. Who knows- to make room, maybe someone like Kyle Waldrop jumps a level? 9. Langfield (depending on whether he's a starter or reliever), Guillon and possibly even Garrett could easily sneak into the Dayton rotation next year. Garrett could also be destined for another year in Rookie Ball. Gotta love the way the Louisville and Dayton rotations are shaping up. 10. I think Hoover and Joseph could and should get a shot to stick with the big club in ST next year. Could say the same for Henry Rodriguez at 3B (and backup 1B/2B). |
Re: Future Farm
As far as Billy goes, I think his ultimate position is decided by Stubbs and Cozart which one do you want to keep?

And what's more valuable.......relievers or starters? Man, I'd love to see a Louisville rotation of Corcino, Cingrani, Lotzkar, Sulbaran, Hoover and/or Villareal. If they rose to the occasion, Reds would be in great position on the trade front.........either by trading a major league starter or one or two of these guys. Definitely wish Lutz could make it to Louisville next year in LF. And definitely want Hamilton playing CF at Pensacola. Cross my fingers. |
