Rolen's July & Reds Corner IF/OF Production

Hadn't seen this mentioned here.

For as bad as Rolen was early on in the season, he certainly rebounded in July. His slash line was .321 /.413/.509 for an OPS of .922. Combine that with Frazier turning the best month of his career at .306/.341/.541 for .882. The Reds lost very little production without Votto in the Lineup. Add to that Ludwick's production in LF (.333/.383/.707 for 1.089), and the Reds are set at the corners.

When Votto returns, who sits? After Bruce's mediocre July, you could make the case for sticking Ludwick in RF and Frazier at LF against LHP.

It is certainly a great problem to have.

Care to elaborate?

Bruce's OPS against LHP this year is below his career numbers. Ludwick's 2012 numbers are better than Bruce's as are Ludwicks career numbers vs LHP. Frazier has a .900+ OPS against LHP, albeit a smaller sample size.

So where do you base your comment? Defense? You can make an argument that Bruce's defense is invaluable, which is is, but Ludwick is far from terible. Its really Frazier's defense in LF that is going to be the biggest issue.

So at the point that Bruce is in one of his streaky, cant his the broad side of a barn downswings, it could be worth it.

Excellent topic.

Credit Rolen for getting going. It's a good problem to have once Votto returns. I agree, that on occasion (partiucularly vs lhp) there is nothing wrong with Bruce sitting. The only thing that gives me pause is the fact that neither Ludwick or Frazier have played RF this season. I'd guees it'd be Frazier starting in RF and Ludwick in LF as I believe Frazier spent some time there in spring training.

I'm sure Frazier will get 2-3 starts per week at 3B once Vottto returns.

The combination of Rolen, Ludwick, & Stubbs getting hot all at the same time has really helped the Reds the last couple weeks. What we thought would be a period of trying to tread water when Votto got hurt turned into a surprising surge. You hope they can keep up their production but you have to tip your cap to Rolen for finally sacking up for once.

One thing this stretch has proved is how deep the team is. Votto down, 10 game winning streak, Phillips down, a couple of wins. With the depth plus the amazing bullpen, I have a lot of confidence with this team in the 7th, 8th, and 9th innings in the playoffs.

Rolen will regress.

It's been a great ride at a time it was sorely needed. Hopefully, it's not one month out of six (or seven if you count the post-season).

May very well be right....but he's done 10x more in the past month than you thought he would.
