Angels and Ryan Madson nearing an incentive-laden deal

I wish the Reds could have done something like that. It will be interesting to see how much.

I'd really prefer Broxton. Hopefully we can get him signed.

Let the Angels rehab Madson, we need more of a sure thing.
I never thought Madson's price would fall to the level where it would be attractive for the Reds to bring him back next year (for me, that level would probably be a max of 2-3 million)

It's official. Madson's an Angel.

There's no logical reason for feeling this way, but I always get bothered when we pay a guy and get nothing out of him. Its business, he owes us nothing as an organization or to the fans, but somehow it always 'hurts my feelings' somehow.

Illogical, but I think the love of sport is illogical by nature so whats one more affront to sanity?

Good luck Ryan, we hardly knew ya.

Agreed. The risk runs both ways and everybody knows what the risks are. Still feels like we got gypped.

I felt the same way. Thats why I wanted the Reds to tender the offer to get a first round comp pick for him leaving.

Seeing Madson lives not far from Anaheim and used the Angels medical staff during his rehab, I am not shocked he is signing with them.

They will.

So the Reds paid Madson to be injured for a season. Oh well, that's the risks you take.

Sometimes good moves don't work out. Good luck to him.

We would have never gotten the pick, though we would have had to pay him $13.3 M to rehab him for half a season.

Same, but mostly because its always cool to have the best players choose to come to the Reds. Madson was a huge longshot to sign with us, so after Reds fans got the surprising gift of this top billed closer deciding to play for us, it was disappointing that he was never able to take the field in the Reds uniform.

Ludwick bothers me even more for some reason even though his situation is "just business" as well. I would've declined the option like he did but still the way the guy struggled early last season and the way Jocketty, Baker, and the Reds stuck with him and helped his resurrect his career it just seems like there would be a little pay back.

What bothers me even more than Ludwick not showing more gratitude is the team owners making hundreds of millions off people abusing their bodies on a daily basis just to make fractions of that.
